Behavioral Health Integrative Counselor

Job Description

The Behavioral Health Integrative Counselor (BHIC) is responsible for working closely with the dental program and other behavioral health (BH) programs to better support patients of the clinic through patient centered evidence-based models.

Essential Functions

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to help support the needs of patients.
  • Appropriately document services provided to patient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Maintains tracking for services provided or programs developed.
  • Participate in sensitive topic presentations to staff.
  • Completes follow up on high-risk cases to ensure patient support.
  • Able to understand and explain results and options for support on screenings (ASQ:3, ASQ:SE, M-CHAT, Edinburg, PHQ-9, GAD-7, and others) as well as explain options for referral planning.
  • Responds to client support in crisis situations including, but not limited to completing calls to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and Screening, Assessment, and Support Services (SASS).
  • Manages referrals sent through BHIC program to begin conducting intake, treatment planning and therapy using evidence-based models.
  • Responsible for scheduling and insurance verification for services provided.

Other Duties

  • Attends assigned workshops as a means of enhancing professional growth.
  • Participates in meetings with department and clinic staff as needed.
  • Provides patient support in medical during crisis, if needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • MSW or M.A. in clinical or counseling psychology
  • LCPC or LCSW required
  • Personality characteristics of patience, integrity, and approachability
  • Must speak and write English / Spanish Knowledge of child developmental milestones (the expected characteristics and course of normal growth and development), especially in infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Previous experience in health care setting, including work as a mental health professional, case manager or health educator, preferred.
  • Computer: knowledge of Word, Excel, and typing. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Knowledge of social service functions and crisis intervention models.
  • Clinical background preferred with familiarity of DSM-V and screening/assessments.
