Job Summary
The Beer Hall GM must be skilled in handling stressful working conditions, be an excellent multitasker, be able to deal with frequent interruptions calmly and decisively, and effectively lead the Beer Hall Management team and Front of House as well as other areas as needed by example.
The Beer Hall GM is responsible for the leading all front of house managers in Surly’s hospitality department.
The Beer Hall GM works with our other Mid or Senior level management, brewers, marketing, pizza, events, the MODS and hospitality staff as a team to create an awesome experience for our guests, jumping in to help wherever help is needed. This position reports to the Vice President of Hospitality.
Essential Functions
Oversee the AGM, FOH mgmt team, Private Event sales team and conduct biannual reviews.
Schedule, build, develop, and coach the Front of the House Management team.
Oversee the education of management and staff on the points of service, including an overall beer appreciation and training to boost our staff’s product knowledge, steps of service, table-side presence, and overall mise en place
Hands on management of the floor, including but not limited to table touches, running food, overseeing staff, and monitoring the door
Opening and closing the restaurant, including preparing and reconciling closing banks, conducting pre-shifts with your team, writing daily recaps, and final walk-throughs
Develop and streamline systems and SOPS for outstanding customer service both internally and externally
Manage the day-to-day business of hospitality through data tracking of beer sales, food sales, business volume and other business-related trends.
Hosting weekly FOH management meeting
Controlling COGS, labor, and comps to budgets
Oversight of monthly inventory
Presence during peak times and busy shifts
Practice and coach positive energy
Oversee the scheduling, recruitment, and maintenance of proper staffing levels.
Ensure guest and employee satisfaction.
Collaborate with VP and Experience manager to create, develop and maintain programs to build sales.
Collaborate with the Experience Manager to ensure activations, experiences and other Beer Hall related items are achieved to keep driving business.
Collaborate with VP of Hospitality and HR to establish policies and protocols.
Collaborate with VP of Hospitality and Executive Chef to set departmental goals.
Set the tone and enforce Rules and Policies while setting leadership standards and hold everyone accountable.
Maintain adaptability of our concept
Oversee hospitality payroll functions and approve payroll bi-weekly.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Fully trained, proficient, able to implement and troubleshoot Toast POS, Hot Schedules Software, ADP, QSR Programs and Systems, Jtech and Spinnaker Systems as well as any other potential system used.
Respects all staff and understand that no one person is more important than another.
Knowledge of Obeer, Wrike, TEAMS, Google Docs, Office 365, Outlook and other company tools.
Knowledge of Health Code, Department of AG expectations, Onsite Walkthroughs and other hospitality and brewing related laws that require inspections and certifications.
Ability to work any floor position, including but not limited to Serving, Bartending, Wait Assisting, Line Cook, Retail, Events and Pizza.
Able to work with a diverse variety of staff, guests and fellow coworkers.
Full knowledge of how to operate minor alarms and system errors within the MSP building such as but not limited to The Boiler Room, Fire Pits, Sub Pumps, Keg Cooler, Keg System, Sprinkler System, Audio System, DJ Equipment, grounds keeping, Power Outages, Movie Equipment, Lighting Systems and all other basic functions of the building and its needs for various departments.
In depth history and knowledge of Surly and its products.
Trained in HR matters to handle the bulk of situations that are non-serious and bring to and work with HR on other HR related issues pertaining to the FOH staff.
Preferred Qualifications
5-10 Years of previous Hospitality Management at a large volume business
ServSafe Certified.
TIPS Certified.
Cicerone Level 1.
Strong knowledge of beer styles, local and national craft beers, and surly products.
Strong knowledge of food styles, trends and hospitality technology and innovation.
Proven track record of multi-tasking abilities.
Outgoing Personality and Exemplary Customer Service.
Ability to work varied and sometimes long hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Might need to lift heavy objects, work in adverse climates and work long hours or be available on weekends and holidays depending on the demand and duties of the day.
