Balkans Researcher - Remote | WFH

Our organization is a leading initiative in disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping. We provide open-access data and analysis on political violence and protest globally, supporting journalism, academic research, and policymaking.

The Role

We are seeking a Balkans Researcher to contribute to the collection, review, and management of political violence and protest data across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. This remote position requires 15 to 20 hours per week and offers flexibility to work from any location with reliable internet.

Responsibilities

Collecting and recording political violence incidents using various sources such as news reports and NGO publications.

Ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability through meticulous review and management.

Participating in training exercises to enhance coding proficiency and maintain data accuracy.

Adhering to project timelines and delivering results with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or a related field.

Proficiency in Excel and fluency in English; fluency in Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian is essential.

Working knowledge of Hungarian is preferred.

Experience in desk-based research with a focus on conflict studies.

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback effectively.

Familiarity with conflict dynamics in the Balkans region is advantageous.

Access to necessary tools: computer, reliable internet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
