The Role
We are currently seeking a Balkans Researcher to assist in collecting, reviewing, and managing political violence and protest data across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. This is a fully remote position requiring 15 to 20 hours per week and can be performed from any location with reliable internet access. This entry-level contractor role involves meticulous data collection using sources like news reports and NGO publications, and recording incidents in Excel templates. Researchers will also ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability.
Responsibilities
Collecting and coding data on political violence and protests from assigned countries
Reviewing and ensuring the quality of collected data
Working with a team to maintain detailed and accurate quantitative data
Participating in training and exercises to maintain high performance standards
Requirements
University degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related fields
Proficiency in Excel
Fluency in English and Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian
Working knowledge of Hungarian preferred
Experience in desk-based research with strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Familiarity with conflict dynamics in the Balkans region is advantageous
Access to a computer, reliable internet, and Microsoft Office Suite
Remuneration and Application
