Underwriting Team Leader – Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice
Chubb’s Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice is seeking an applicant to fill the position of AVP Underwriting Team Leader in our New York office. This position will directly manage several underwriters and report to the Vice President Underwriting Manager.
Our industry practice is part of Chubb Major Accounts, offering customized primary guaranteed cost and complex loss sensitive programs tailored to our client’s business needs and operations. The core lines of business are Workers Compensation, General Liability and Commercial Automobile. We partner with dedicated property and umbrella underwriters to create sustainable solutions for our clients.
The AVP Team Leader is expected to train and lead a team of underwriters, managing the outcome on the team’s collective goals including an assigned renewal book per underwriter, new account targeting, new business production, relationship building with brokers, agents, clients, and training/development of the underwriting staff. The AVP Team Leader will also assist the management team with financial information tracking, analysis, and reporting.
Other Job Responsibilities And Functions Include
Manages underwriting process to assure that internal guidelines and processes are followed timely and accurately, while working within external guidelines requested by the producer and/or client.
Provides technical direction and assistance to underwriting personnel.
Coordinates internal resources and influences outcomes to produce desired results on an account-by-account basis, as well as on the book as a whole.
Acting as a key contact to build, maintain and manage customer/producer relationships (including regular customer and agency visits).
Assist with agency/territory planning and goal setting including monitoring of progress.
Identifying accounts to target and cross sell opportunities on existing accounts.
Meeting with renewal customers as part of a Chubb team to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery.
Working in a team environment with Underwriters, Actuary, Loss Control, Claims, and Operations.
Meeting service standards of a customer focused strategy.
Collecting and sharing competitor data with team.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
At least 5+ years underwriting experience including time spent in the primary casualty space
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Presentation and public speaking skills
Strong negotiations skills
Existing broker and insurance marketplace relationships
Knowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditions
Understanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, and ability to adhere to underwriting authority
Understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, terms and conditions – included but not limited to ISO AL & GL and NCCI Workers Compensation coverage forms and endorsements.
Understanding of large deductible programs and the credit and collateral implications of such programs
Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to select risk based on exposure and hazard analysis. Ability to analyze claims and loss trends
The pay range for the role is $102,000 to $168,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
