Job Summary

The Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVP), reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. With authority delegated by the Vice President, the AVP directs essential aspects of the Department's academic planning and management efforts to support the College's overall mission, strategic plan, and goals. The AVP fosters and upholds the Department's dedication to excellence and innovation in serving a diverse student body and college community.

The AVP provides support in all academic areas with specific emphasis on General Education, transfer programs, curriculum, credit review, and assessment. The AVP will work with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and department chairpersons in scheduling classes, balancing teaching loads and confirming faculty qualifications, and overload contracts, as well as supervision of department administrative assistants. The AVP is also responsible for specific management of functions related to curriculum development, new program development, program approval, course catalog, and the master schedule.

Position Duties

Assist with professional development opportunities and orientation for staff and faculty.

Collaborates with Department Chairs to develop master academic schedule.

Collaborates with Department Chairs to determine faculty work load.

Comply with all College policies and procedures.

Ensure the production of the college catalog and class schedules on a timely basis.

Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.

Plan and generate faculty assignments and schedules with assistance from Department Chairs.

Work with other related College offices as appropriate: Student Services, Enrollment/Advising, Registrar, etc.

Assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs by performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Education Background

Master’s Degree.

Required Experience

Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, leadership potential, and professional development required.

Minimum of three years of experience working in higher education academic administration (e.g., at the Dean level and above) or five years of academic leadership at the program level (e.g., Program Director, Department Chair, etc.)

Knowledge of higher education policy trends.

Significant experience with oversight of complex projects.

Strategic planning experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to perform enterprise software (Jenzabar) functions.

An understanding of and commitment to serving the needs of first-year students.

Appropriate academic and administrative experience.

Demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing academic programs

Experience in working with undergraduate education, including first-year students.

Higher education teaching experience

Supervisory Requirements: Academic Department Administrative Assistants

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment

Work performed in an office environment, classroom, and throughout the main campus and outreach centers. In addition, some work will be completed throughout the College service community at community functions and events.
