SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled and versatile Audio Visual (AV) Technician to join our Academic Technology team at Logan University. The AV Technician will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audiovisual equipment to support a variety of academic and extracurricular activities, including classroom, lectures, conferences, workshops, and live events. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality AV services in a dynamic university environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AV technology and experience in live event production.

The Specific Duties Include

  • Set up, operate, and maintain audio, video, and lighting equipment for academic activities; including lectures, conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Provide AV support for live events such as performances, guest lectures, and university ceremonies.
  • Perform classroom maintenance to integrated audio visual system used around campus in a variety of enviornments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with AV equipment promptly to avoid disruptions during academic sessions and live events.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and event organizers to understand and meet their AV requirements.
  • Manage and maintain an inventory of AV equipment, ensuring all devices are in good working condition and properly stored.
  • Assist in the installation and integration of new AV systems and upgrades to existing setups.
  • Provide training and support to faculty, staff, and student organizations on the use of AV equipment and technology.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and university policies during AV setup and operation.
  • Document AV setups and procedures for various venues and events to ensure consistency and efficiency in future operations.
  • Stay updated with the latest AV technologies and industry trends to improve service quality continually.

  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with a variety of AV equipment, including PTZ Cameras, projectors, sound systems, microphones, mixers, lighting controls, and video conferencing platforms.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • An associate's degree or certification in audiovisual technology, electronics, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an AV Technician or in a similar role, preferably in an academic or live event setting.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in operating a wide range of AV equipment, including projectors, sound systems, microphones, mixers, and lighting controls.
    • Strong technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to quickly resolve AV issues.
    • Familiarity with control systems, AV software, and digital interfaces.
    • Knowledge of video conferencing platforms and streaming technologies.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality AV services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Standing and Walking: The technician will spend a significant amount of time standing and walking while setting up, operating, and troubleshooting AV equipment during events. This may involve large event spaces, moving between different venues on campus, and remaining on foot for extended periods.
  • Climbing and Balancing: Some venues, such as theaters and amphitheaters, may require the technician to climb ladders or scaffolding to access elevated areas for installing lighting fixtures, speakers, or cameras. The ability to climb and balance at heights is essential for performing these tasks safely.
  • Setting Up Equipment: Setting up AV equipment involves positioning heavy or bulky items, such as speaker stands, lighting trusses, and projector screens. This requires physical strength and dexterity to safely assemble and secure equipment according to specifications.
  • Lifting and Carrying: The technician may be required to lift and carry heavy AV equipment, such as speakers, amplifiers, projectors, and lighting fixtures, weighing up to 50 pounds. This may involve loading and unloading equipment from vehicles, transporting it between venues, and moving it within event spaces to set up and dismantle AV setups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The technician will work in a variety of environments, including indoor classrooms, theaters, and pavilions, as well as outdoor amphitheaters and athletic fields. This may involve exposure to temperature extremes, inclement weather, and uneven terrain, requiring adaptability and resilience to work effectively in different conditions.

Anatomy lab, the technician must be comfortable working in an environment that involves the presence of cadavers used for educational purposes. The technician should be prepared to handle AV equipment in a manner that minimizes any risk of contamination and ensures the effective delivery of educational content.
