JOB DESCRIPTION: Audio/Visual Technician
DEPARTMENT: Technology -Audio/Visual
LOCATION: Primarily stationed at Lake Terrace Convention Center; but work requires travel to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission facilities. These include the Saenger Theater, African American Military History Museum, Eureka School Museum, and the Hattiesburg Zoo. Travel may be also required to conferences and seminars.
SHIFT: Full-time; Varies - due to the irregular schedule of the Event Services industry, hours may fall in varying patterns even within the work week. Holidays and weekends are often busy times for events and the staff must be flexible and reliable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
SUMMARY: Responsible for setting up and operating audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, sound and mixing boards, connecting wires and cables, and other related electronic equipment. The Audio/Visual (A/V) Technician provides these services for special events, meetings and conventions, and instructs others in these tasks. The A/V Specialist also creates lighting and décor designs for special events.

Must retain a valid Driver’s License and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Create designs for special events using lighting and other décor such as fabric
- Meet with event coordinators and clients to advise on A/V requests
- Instruct and train others on how to operate equipment
- Install equipment upgrades when available
- Set sound and lighting equipment and other décor for a range of events
- Set presentation equipment such as screens and projectors for meetings and events
- Communicate with clients/guests about rented equipment operation
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during meetings and events
- Maintain and properly care for equipment; track inventory
- Research and purchase of presentation, sound and lighting equipment
- Maintain weekly work instructions and direct daily tasks of A/V Tech(s)
- Update software-based exterior marquee display
- Must be comfortable dealing with electronic equipment and working at heights
- Ability to learn, develop, and teach established, as well as new, equipment setup techniques
- Must have patience and calm demeanor to deal with sudden event changes and when dealing with clients/guests
- Must be able to properly communicate set up logistics and equipment capabilities
- Must be able to complete setup and install projects in a timely fashion
- Thorough understanding of audio and video signal flow and lighting physics
- Years’ experience working with sound and/or lighting equipment in a work or school environment; (2) years of full-time/professional work at an events-based facility

- Able to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team
- Advanced Customer Service/Service Excellence skills
- Excellent computer skills (experience with Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Knowledge of theater lighting systems
