Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years successful teaching or coaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a valid TN teaching license required, administrative endorsement preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL

To provide each enrolled student of middle and secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Organizes and administers the overall program of athletics, both intramural and interscholastic.
  • Supervises all athletic events and works cooperatively in the maintaining of the stadium and other playing fields.
  • Conducts student and parent surveys about athletic programs in pursuit of continual improvement.
  • Coordinates and oversees a unified approach to athletic mastery, ensuring input and continuity at every level possible.
  • Assists the principal in the recommendations for employment of personnel to be assigned to the areas of responsibility.
  • Supports youth sport coordinator in yearly program planning. Mentors this program as needed to support the district vision.
  • Assists middle school athletic coordinator in planning middle school athletics including budgeting, hiring and conflict management. Ensures that middle school athletics aligns with the high school athletic vision.
  • Establishes and submits, in writing, annual goals and objectives for the professional improvement for all athletic programs.
  • Serves as the spokesperson in the area of public relations for intramural and interscholastic sports activities.
  • Works cooperatively with school staff, students, parents and other committee members in promoting athletics and a positive image of such.
  • Assumes responsibility for planning and executing pep rallies and other athletic related activities including approved tournaments.
  • Coordinates transportation for athletic related travel.
  • Attends administrative staff meetings at the high school as assigned.
  • In partnership with the principal, assumes responsibility for the athletic budget and spending within the athletic department.
  • Manges and communicates all sport schedules.
  • Under the general supervisor of the high school principal, manages the athletic supply needs and submits requests for required materials for the athletic programs.
  • Works with maintenance chief officer to identify capital outlay needs including large equipment.
  • Supervises school activities scheduled in Viking Hall and serves as liaison between the school and others wishing to use Viking Hall.
  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and supervision of cleaning service in Viking Hall, in conjunction with the Maintenance Department.
  • Pursues avenues to keep the buildings and fields in good condition.
  • Assures that all TSSAA and TMSAA rules and regulations, state laws, and board policies are followed.
  • Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the secondary supervisor, principal or designee.

  • Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
