Refrigeration Engineer - Associate Technical Director

IIAR advocates for its members'​ interests before regulatory bodies worldwide, including EPA, OSHA, and various code-writing authorities. Our members, representing respected companies globally, collaborate to enhance natural refrigeration publications and share knowledge and experience through committees and task forces. IIAR maintains an online searchable Natural Refrigeration e-Library, providing access to the latest technical papers, standards, guidelines and the Ammonia Data Book.


Role Description

This is a full-time remote role for an Associate Technical Director at IIAR. The Associate Technical Director supports all technical aspects of IIAR operations including standards and guideline development and updates, technical committee initiative execution, training program development and updates, and all technical aspects of IIAR’s advocacy efforts including support for governmental organizations such as OSHA & EPA, and support of member organizations. The Associate Technical Director reports directly to the Vice President & Technical Director.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the development and maintenance of IIAR Standards and compliance with ANSI rules and audit requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of IIAR Guidelines, Handbooks, and Posters
  • Support the publication efforts for standards, guidelines, industry books, and posters by engaging with designers, print vendors, and e-publication vendors. 
  • Support the production of technical content for educational materials, including the identification of industry needs (articles, guidelines, research, and technical papers) and editorial efforts as necessary with a focus on maintaining consistency of information throughout the array of materials the association offers.
  • Support the development of educational resources including but not limited to webinars, Academy of Natural Refrigerant training classes, video series training classes, and Condenser Magazine articles.
  • Support the development of conference technical program content in conjunction with the director of education, director of events and international, conference chair, and vice president & technical director.
  • Participate in the technical committee work of IIAR, and other national and international industry groups, as necessary and defined by the vice president & technical director.
  • Field technical questions and assist members and the public with information on technical and compliance matters.
  • Identify potential opportunities for technical input with members. 
  • Support code advocacy efforts as necessary and defined by the vice president & technical director.
  • Support with Government Relations advocacy as necessary and defined by the vice president & technical director.
  • Support the development, (and at times the presentation), of virtual or live presentations at trade shows, allied partner events, and for IIAR purposes, in regards to all of IIAR’s technical, educational and advocacy work.
  • Travel to and support annual conferences and exhibitions, industry trade shows, partner association meetings, and related government agencies to support the work and mission of IIAR.
  • Support and participate in the development of the association’s plans and programs as a strategic planner and provide support for adjusting existing or creating new revenue resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of technical innovations and trends related to IIAR’s operations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.  


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, industrial technology, or related field
  • 1-5 years of experience working in the field of industrial or commercial cooling & refrigeration
  • National and International Travel as required to support the efforts stated above.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software including Microsoft Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook and familiarity with other software used for remote work including MS Teams, Dropbox, etc.
  • Superb writing and communication skills, ability for public speaking
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills – to support IIAR’s initiatives, its members, and IIAR staff in a remote working environment.
  • Must be accurate and customer-oriented, (internal, and external customers), with attention to detail and timely execution of tasks.
  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset striving to make IIAR’s technical initiatives planning, execution, and upkeep more efficient and sustainable.


Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Experience in applying code requirements and regulatory programs
  • Experience in writing or using standards, guidelines and safe work practices
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management and Risk Safety Management
  • Refrigeration, HVAC, Heat Pump, Utilities and/or facilities hands-on skills
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish)
