Good Samaritan Family Resource Center (GSFRC) is an innovative multi-service non-profit agency located in San Francisco’s Mission District. Its mission is to help immigrant families access needed services, develop self-sufficiency, and participate fully as members of the community. Our staff is a diverse and talented team willing to take different and unique approaches to help children, youth and families thrive and succeed.

Program Summary

The Good Samaritan Child Development Center provides a State-licensed, full-day preschool program for children 2 ½ to 5 years of age. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through a developmentally appropriate curriculum . Our philosophy is child-centered, rather than adult directed. The dual-language (Spanish/English) program curriculum is realized through structuring the environment into interest areas, the planning of program activities to meet each child’s individual needs, and the opportunity for active participation rather than passive observation. Children participate in developmentally appropriate activities designed to develop their social emotional skills, enhance their fine and gross motor skills , dual language skills, encourage creative learning , cognitive development, and tea ch pre-literacy and skills .

Specific Responsibilities
  • Stimulate emotional and social growth of children by helping develop age-appropriate activities and curriculum
  • Meets the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child.
  • Implement and document diverse activities that are developmentally appropriate for children ages 2 1/2- 5 years old.
  • Assist the teachers with the preparation of materials that are used in and out of the classroom.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be able to work as a team.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents and all other staff
  • Report Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP)
  • Build monthly observational portfolios
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Other Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, well-being and adequate supervision of the children at all times.
  • Maintain forms and reports as needed.
  • Constantly supervise the children under the regulations of the License of the State of California
  • Comply with the legal standards for mandated reporting and child welfare laws.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences or other training sessions which are deemed beneficial to professional growth.
  • Meet weekly with our Wellness Initiative group
  • Ensure that daily decisions, communication, interaction, and activities incorporate the Good Sam Values (Respect □ Trust □ Integrity □ Corazon □ Participation □ Innovation)
Qualifications
  • Associate teachers permit required.
  • A minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood or Childhood Development courses
  • Six months to 1-year work experience working with children ages 3-5 in a preschool environment.
  • Working knowledge of reporting procedures for child and adult protective services
  • Experience with community care licensing policies and regulations
  • State certified in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Clear TB test & fingerprint clearance required through Community Care Licensing
  • State certified in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
  • Current immunization records
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with Outlook.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, or crouch, kneel, lift or climb, reach with hands and arms, pull or push, or carry.
  • Continuously required to see, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to lift less than 40 pounds. Finger dexterity and hand coordination required .
Requirements
  • Must clear full background check (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index).
  • Must have TB clearance, health screening, and valid immunization records including influenza vaccination, current Covid Vaccine Card.
Desired Qualifications
  • B ilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Familiarity with Reggio Emilia inspired curriculums
  • Familiarity with CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid framework
