Associate/ Senior Associate Scientist in Protein Engineering (Contract to Hire)

General Summary

We are seeking a skilled scientist with a background in Protein/Enzyme engineering and molecular biology in the Bioengineering Department at BioMap. This position will mainly focus on computation-aided library generation, high-throughput screening, recombinant protein/enzyme production, and molecular biology.

We are a multi-disciplinary team working closely with computational scientists on nanobodies, antibodies, and enzymes, supporting the discovery of bio-therapeutics through our engineering expertise. The successful candidate has a background within protein engineering and molecular biology, and preferably experience with HT display methodologies in the library generation, and automation platform development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working closely with other scientists on protein/enzyme engineering projects by using yeast display, NGS, flow cytometry, liquid handler, microplate reading.
  • Help design the DNA constructs, and generate the synthetic DNA library by molecular biology techniques, including RT-PCR, gene cloning, yeast transformation, mammalian cell transfection, etc.
  • Analyze libraries by FACS sorting and NGS to screen for lead candidate.
  • Help develop the high-throughput flow cytometry and plate-reader analysis platform.
  • Assist the HTP protein/enzyme characterization and assay development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for project development.
  • Routine laboratory instruments maintenance, including flow cytometry, PerkinElmer Liquid Handling system.
  • Demonstrate ability to combine, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources.
  • Attend internal and external meeting to represent the department or company for project presentation.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's in Biochemistry with 3+ years of relevant experience is required. A Master's or a Ph.D degree in subject matter expertise is preferred.
  • Relevant required experience includes some combination of the following skills:
  • Recombinant protein and enzyme production in mammalian cells, experience in protein purification systems (such as AKTA).
  • Experience with synthetic DNA library amplification, and DNA construct generation.
  • Good understanding of antibody and enzyme science.
  • Experience with different protein formats, such as antibody, nanobody, mini-binder, and enzyme is a plus.
  • Experience with Display technologies, Flow cytometry, NGS is a plus.
  • Experience with PerkinElmer Liquid Handling system is a plus.
  • Experience with protein characterization (SPR/BLI, functional validation) is a plus.
  • Familiar with industrial working standards, including LIMS is a plus.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good working attitude in a fast-growing organization.
