Associate Principal of Operations

Position Title: Associate Principal for Operations at RHS

Classification: RSAA, Range 4

Reports To: Building Principal

Supervises: Supervises all professional and operational support staff, including, but not limited to, clerical staff, facilities, food service, safe school officers, and Welcome Center/Main office staff as assigned.

Position Goal: To collaborate with the High School Principal and Operational Directors at Central Office to lead and ensure effective and successful operations at Reading High School to positively impact and support student achievement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Appropriate Master’s Degree required; Minimum five years teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability and knowledge in operational best practices is required. Experience in a large/urban public school setting is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: PA Teaching Certificate, PA Administrative Certification – K-12 Principal (or appropriate level K-6 or 7-12 Principal Certification)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities, and management may revise it at any time. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:

  • Supports the organizational vision, mission, and strategic goals for student success through operational effectiveness across all campuses and programs including students enrolled in the virtual academy and credit recovery.
  • Serves as a visible and effective leader who works collaboratively with the High School Principal, as well as the Associate and Assistant Principals, and Directors of the operational departments of the District, including but not limited to: Athletics, Food Services, Facilities, Safe Schools, Instructional Technology, Communications, Administrative/Clerical Support Staff and Transportation, to ensure seamless and efficient operations at Reading High School.
  • Supervises assigned support staff at all Reading High School campuses, including, but not limited to members of the Departments of Facilities, Food Service, Safe Schools, Transportation, and associated administrative/clerical assistants in collaboration with their respective departmental Directors.
  • Leads and/or attends operational meetings at the request of the Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent of Operations.
  • Oversees and establishes systems and processes for student enrollment, student records and transcripts, ensuring excellent customer service to families and visitors from all public-facing staff, particularly in the main office and in the Welcome Center.
  • Designs and executes operational plans for large-scale events and activities such as open house, parent-teacher conferences, student orientations, graduation, prom, homecoming, standardized testing, assemblies, ceremonies, etc.
  • Engages with community members, volunteers, local businesses and organizations to coordinate and plan special events, programs and services offered to students and staff at Reading High School, as well as the community, including, but not limited to: memorandums of understanding, scheduling, room rentals, communications, etc.
  • Oversees Reading High School’s supplies, purchases, inventory, and distribution thereof.
  • Assists with the coordination of professional development and training for operational staff for Reading High School.
  • Assists the High School Principal with the development and monitoring of the school budget and the implementation of a sound financial management plan, including, but not limited to, the management and oversight of student activity accounts.
  • Collaborates with the High School Principal and Associate Principal of Teaching and Learning to develop and oversee the efficiency and effectiveness of school schedules, including master, staff and student schedules, and provides training to new staff involved in scheduling, in accordance with district and state guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Facilities and/or the Assistant Director of Custodial Services to establish appropriate maintenance, grounds-keeping, and custodial standards for the building and inspects all school building grounds and installations on a regular basis to determine the standard of workmanship and cleanliness are maintained.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Communications to assist with the management and oversight of two-way communication systems between the school and its respective stakeholders to ensure that information is received and disseminated in a timely, professional and effective manner.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent’s Office to coordinate and disseminate emergency communications as directed.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Safe School to maintain current safe school and/or crisis plans for all Reading High School campuses and coordinates safety protocols and drills to comply with school and state regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee, including the building principal.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial reports, governmental regulations and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the public, staff, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns from professional and support staff, public groups, governmental agencies and District Administrators.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.

  • Ability to apply financial concepts.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, twist and stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include vision and depth perception. Some driving is necessary.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: FLSA Exempt; Act 93
