Temp Associate Scientist, Neuroscience

Pay Range: $35 - $40/hr

Onsite Role in Tarrytown, NY

6 Month Contract


The Temp Associate Scientist is part of the Neuroscience Therapeutic Focus Area (TFA) and will support collaborative research to understand pathogenic mechanisms and develop therapeutic strategies for diseases of the nervous system such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple System Atrophy, Dementia with Lewy Body and Alzheimer’s Disease.

In this role, you will help to advance programs to better understand and treat neurodegenerative disorders.

Primary duties include basic in vitro work and in vivo studies that involve handling live rodents for tasks such as behavioral testing, injections, surgeries and sample collection. Additionally, characterization of collected samples using biochemical, molecular, and immune-based assays at the bench.


As an Associate Scientist in the Neuroscience team, a typical day might include the following:

  • Planning, initiating, and completing in vivo assays: injections, rodent surgeries, dissections and sample collections.
  • Conducting sample processing and analysis with molecular biology, biochemical and immuno-based assays: RT-qPCR, RNA sequencing, ELISAs, Western blot.
  • Performing and analyzing histology: Tissue processing, fixation, cryopreservation, tissue sectioning (vibratome, cryostat, microtome), handling of histological slides and basic histological staining methods, IF, IHC, RNAscope ISH methods, IHC/ISH multiplex assays. Confocal image acquisition and analysis.
  • Learning new methods and/or technologies relevant to various projects including, but not limited to, isolation, culture and maintenance of specific brain cell types, advanced data collection and data analysis (cell counting, unbiased stereology, quantifications in Halo, Image J, Prism).
  • Keeping up-to-date and well-organized records of experimental protocols and results.
  • Communicating and reporting experimental findings at group and departmental meetings.
  • Surveying current and relevant literature to expand scientific and technical knowledge.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience or a related field with 1+ years of lab experience. Experience in neuroscience, molecular tools for CNS targeting, basic in vitro experience and in vivo models of neurodegenerative disorders are highly desirable.
