Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Editor to join our newsroom. This position is perfect for a writer who has gained significant reporting experience and is starting to take on editing assignments. As an Associate Editor, you will be responsible for writing multiple stories daily as well as editing content, guiding writers, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of our news stories. This role requires a keen eye for detail, solid time-management skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
• Source, pitch, and report on breaking news and high-interest stories from inception to publication.
• Mentor and guide junior writers and reporters, providing feedback and support.
• Conduct research, interviews, and fact-checking to ensure the accuracy of information.
• Stay updated on current events and industry trends relevant to your assigned beats.
• Handle web production tasks, ensuring stories are packaged with multimedia elements and are visually compelling to enhance readability.
• Collaborate with the editorial team to develop story ideas and improve content quality.
• Ensure adherence to AP style and best practices in journalism and digital content distribution.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• 2-3 years of experience in journalism, including writing and editing roles (we will consider high-caliber student journalism experience)
• Proficiency in AP style, breaking news reporting, and social media best practices.
• Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with CMS and editorial tools.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
