Responsibilities

Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean/Director of Residential Life and Community Standards, the Associate Director of Residence Life oversees the development and implementation of residential programs for a residential population of 1,200 undergraduates on the East Falls campus. This position serves as a member of the Residential Life Leadership Team and is responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of the residence life professional and student staff. This includes supervision of 2 Resident Directors and 46 Resident Assistants. The Associate Director is responsible for themed housing initiatives, leadership development and student engagement in the residence halls. The Associate Director of Residence Life participates in the on-call duty rotation for campus crisis and emergency response.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Primary responsible for the management of the Residence Life program on the East Falls campus.
  • Supervision of 2 Resident Directors, and 46 Resident Assistants in 7 residential facilities.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, develops, and evaluates Resident Director and Resident Assistant staff.
  • Provides leadership for all residential programming, Resident Director and Resident Assistant staff development on the East Falls campus.
  • Promotes community development, provides leadership to Resident Assistant staff for implementation and oversee the programming budget.
  • Coordinates the development of programming that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in alignment with University guidelines.
  • Manages the Residential Life Resource room.
  • Working knowledge of Maxient Conduct Manager Software.
  • Assists in the management of Community Standards records.
  • Assists the Office of Residential Life to provide on-going trainings and presentations to all Community Standards Officers and Community Standards Hearing Board members.
  • Provides direct supervision professional Resident Director staff serving as Community Standards Officers.
  • Serves as investigator for potential violations of the University’s Community Standards policies.
  • Assists in assessing the Community Standards processes and report data to Senior Leadership and key stake holders as requested.
  • Provides consultation on processes such as Academic Misconduct, Student Financial Assistance, Title IX and BIT and their usage of the Maxient Conduct Manager Software.
  • Supports the development of residential themed communities.
  • Assists the Assistant Dean/Director of Residential Life and Community Standards with vision & leadership for residential themed communities.
  • Maintains an understanding of the current best practices in the field of student conduct and student learning.
  • Serves as the content manager for residence life information on social media and the ORL website.
  • Serves in an on-call duty rotation to support staff emergency response during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assists in representing the office at campus wide events.
  • Creates strong partnerships within the Student Life division and with other department’s on- campus, including faculty, security/Public Safety, Facilities and other administrative offices.
  • Provides appropriate referrals for students regarding academic, social, and psychological issues.
  • Assists Student Life’s Divisional efforts to support implementation and assessment process of the divisional learning outcomes for students.
  • Coordinates and assists in university, divisional and departmental student assessment efforts.
  • Other duties and functional areas responsibilities as named by Assistant Dean/Director of Residential Life and Community Standards.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required)

  • Experience in, and a strong understanding of, Residence Life practices.
  • Knowledge of crisis response and ability to engage in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of college student development and student conduct experience strongly preferred.
  • Visionary outlook and strong background in student development theory and practice, facilities and budget management, policy development/implementation and supervision.
  • Appreciation for all forms of diversity and a willingness to work with students and staff to create an environment that fosters respect, appreciation, and values the contributions of all members of the community.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
  • The ability to collaborate with personnel in Public Safety, academic departments, and other University offices in order to meet the needs of residential students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend and “on call” assignments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field required.

AND

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in student affairs.

Additional Information

  • Familiarity with computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and StarRez.
