This position is a 12-month administrative position that includes medical insurance, generous retirement benefits, and 22 vacation days in addition to College-recognized holidays (13 plus two floating days). Weekend and evening work is necessary to accomplish the expected outcomes.

We are seeking an energetic person capable of professional interactions with patrons and program participants, as well as, the ability to mentor student employees. The employee should be able to remain organized in a fast-paced work environment and navigate efficiently between a wide variety of software programs. This employee’s ability to develop and implement policy; self-reliance and vigilance; and a willingness to assess their own performance is vital to this position’s effectiveness. Sports Clubs Program

Provide administrative support for the sports clubs as it relates to executive board officer and instructor education plus monitor compliance with various policies focused mainly on officer education. In carrying out this responsibility, the employee must develop working relationships with a variety of college offices and approximately 85 student leaders.

  • Ensure that officers, instructors, and advisors are oriented to the full range of policies and procedures essential to operate.
  • Maintain a timeline and track compliance with established expectations for each organization using our DSE software.
  • Coordinate the requirements of specific organizations ranging from facility preparation to event staff to medical staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between individual clubs with leagues, conferences, and NGBs.
  • Develop and revisit the risk management sections of sports clubs constitutions annually.
  • Take steps to raise awareness of club accomplishments, season and semester highlights.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and student supervisors to support efforts around training, compliance, and audits of organizations.

Intramural Sports Program (Co-Coordinate)

Provide oversight for intramural sports related to an appropriate range of activities, proper program supervision, and training of student supervisors, team captains, and sports officials. In carrying out this responsibility, the employee must maintain a working knowledge of IMLeagues software and be proactive about applying risk management practices.

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate intramural event supervisors and sports officials.
  • Maintain an intramural sports handbook, training materials and risk management procedures.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of tournaments, leagues and playing venues include facility reservations.
  • Design and implement a marketing plan for the intramural sport program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of standards and trends in intramural sports.
  • Maintain properly stocked first aid supplies, equipment inventory, personnel and participation records.

Facility Management and Advising Efforts

  • Implement procedures, generating work orders, scheduling and approving the use of space by internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure that learning outcomes including those around leadership development are a part of all student roles.
  • Assist with the design of student training that focuses on consistent performance – especially around emergency response.
  • Share in the instruction of CPR and first aid certification classes plus red cap drill audits for the department’s employees.

Professional Qualities And Reach

  • Participate in weekly staff, risk management and division meetings plus the possibility of representing the Recreation Services Department on division-wide committees and working groups.
  • Encourage programmatic efforts that promote the integration of student learning with the academic mission of the College, and the Campus Life Division goals for student learning, and leadership development.
  • Incorporate assessment into programmatic efforts to evaluate the achievement of goals related to student learning.
  • Remain current on best practices in recreational sports, methods of student development, and a broad range of sport-specific rules associated with national organizations such as NIRSA, AEE, and /or AORE.
  • Prepare semester and annual reports that include a full range of programs’ effectiveness and impact.
  • Participation in the department’s weekend on-call rotation, student supervisor recognition, and training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation Services.

Qualifications & Experience: Master's Degree in Recreation or Sports Management, Leisure Studies or a related field combined with at least three years of hands-on experience combining managing sports events, tournaments and staff; advising student organizations; and managing facility spaces. Experience teaching first aid and CPR or proof that skills are sufficient to become a certified instructor. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. In addition to spreadsheets proficiency, a high level of competency with various software platforms widely used in the recreational sports profession. Proficiency with Excel and IMLeagues

Preferred: Experience with robust survey software (e.g., Qualtrics), facility scheduling software (e.g., EMS), and the use of online online classrooms (e.g., Moodle/Spaces).
