Associate Designer

Nautica New York City Metropolitan Area

The Associate Designer is responsible for seasonal sketching, tech pack creation, trim development, trend research and daily communication with cross functional partners (Merchandising, Product Development and Tech). This position will be responsible all men’s apparel categories within the Value channel.


Responsibilities

• Bring cohesive, seasonal, thoughtful, brand right, strategic ideas to concept

• Create and update tech packs across all responsible categories with precise, detailed information

• Create flat sketches color cads and 3D images for account presentations and Market appointments, updating as product evolves

• Communicate w/ Product Development, Tech, and Fabric teams daily regarding tech packs and development

• Receive and review handlooms, lab dips, strike offs, graphics, etc for color and layout approval

• Attending fittings and communicate design changes to PD/Sourcing partners

• Identifies white space opportunities to help influence seasonal assortments

• Monitor industry product trends by evaluating competition both in-stores and online; propose ideas to help drive our business based on findings.

• Maintain seasonal deadlines in accordance with development calendar

• Review samples throughout the development and production process

• Support with Market week showroom set up

• Flexibility in job responsibilities as business needs grow and change


Qualifications:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Design, Product Development or related field

• 3+ years of related experience

• Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, Desl or similar product management system

• Ability to create flat sketches and recolor solids, prints and patterns

• Knowledge of fabrics, specs, technical sketching and garment construction

• Knowledge of the wash/dye process, embellishments and different fabrics

• Color sensibility with the ability to make color approvals, experience approving print and pattern for color and layout

• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to articulate a point of view

• Self-motivated with a strong ability to self-manage and define priorities of the department/business

• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple categories

• Ability to work in a professional, fast paced environment where priorities can shift daily

Physical Requirements:

•Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

•Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

•Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours per day

•Ability to constantly operate a computer, other office equipment and look at a monitor for up to 8 hours per day

•Ability to clearly and accurately communicate and exchange information verbally, in writing, or through other means in person, telephonically, or through virtual communication methods

•Ability to reach at or below shoulder level

•Ability to carry equipment, move boxes/samples, etc.)


Requirements & EEO Statement

The salary range for this position is $67,500 to $75,000 annually. Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to position offered and work experience. In addition to your salary, SPARC Group, and its affiliated brands, offers a benefits package, including 401(k) plan, overtime pay, flexible work schedule and a generous employee discount program (all benefits are based on eligibility).
