Assistant Youth Director

The Assistant Youth Director is a critical member of the First Pres Youth Ministries Team, assisting in creating high energy environments of trust, relationship, and faith development for students, leaders, and parents. The Assistant Youth Director assists in executing the vision of First Pres Youth Ministries, making First Pres a great place to raise kids in the Lord. This role is especially focused on High School students and leading volunteer teams in running programmatic aspects of the ministry, all to the end of helping students grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in full-time youth or family ministry.
  • Proven experience recruiting, developing, and deploying volunteer teams in a church ministry or non-profit context.
  • Proven experience discipling individuals and shepherding groups.
  • Proven experience balancing a workload consisting of long-range projects, ongoing programs, and emergency situations.

Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrates spiritual maturity, a deep understanding of the scriptures, and the ability to communicate the Gospel in a contextualized and winsome manner.
  • Expertise in adolescent development and a commitment to professional development, especially as it pertains to teenagers and youth culture.
  • Ability to recruit, train, inspire, and mobilize volunteer leaders and church staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various constituencies (youth, parents, volunteers, grandparents, broader church, public, colleagues, etc.)
  • The ability to coordinate teams to execute youth ministry events.
  • Ability to relate well with youth and their families.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in Youth Ministry or Childhood Education preferred.

Position Requirements

  • Under the leadership of the Youth Ministries Director, lead initiatives, events, and programs to support First Pres’s ministry to youth and their families (weekly programs, camps, service projects, small group Bible studies, outreach efforts, etc.).
  • Assist the Youth Ministries Director in the training lay leaders in risk management, crisis response, church protocol, group leadership skills, discipleship, specific activity skills, and evangelism.
  • Develop significant relationships with students, parents, and leaders through contact work and by maintaining a presence in local schools.
  • In partnership with other Family Ministries staff, work to facilitate healthy transitions for students from nursery into young adulthood.
  • Assist in activating students into First Pres volunteer roles (camp counselors, elementary Sunday school, etc.)
  • Following the leadership of the Young Adult Director, prepare graduating seniors for life beyond high school (church engagement, college-prep, etc.)
  • Assist the Youth Ministries Director in ensuring that all children of the church are accurately identified and documented in the church database for the purpose of offering consistent care and support.
  • Assist the Youth Ministries Director in implementing a strategy for outreach to teenagers in our community, working to assist them along the Discipleship Pathway.
  • Assist the Youth Ministries Director with crisis response as appropriate.
  • Utilize social media in an effort to engage families and students (e.g. FirstPresYouth Instagram)
  • Develop relationships with other youth workers in the community (church leaders, parachurch leaders, government youth advocates) for the purpose of better resourcing parents, equipping volunteers and staff, caring for students, and helping teenagers meet and follow Jesus.
  • Participate in Family Ministries Ministry Team, Youth Ministries Team, Family Ministries Team, Staff Chapel and other appropriate meetings for collaboration and coordination.
  • Efficiently carry out all administrative duties of the position, including prompt response to correspondence, voice mail, and email.
