Position Summary

The Assistant Vice President ( AVP ) for Advancement Works collaboratively to develop, implement, and achieve strategic plans for increasing private support for Gannon University. The AVP for Advancement

  • Recruits, coaches, supports, and evaluates a team of advancement professionals. In concert with the Vice President (VP) for University Advancement, establishes clear expectations and measurable goals, leading staff to accomplish aspirational, yet achievable, individua\ and team fund raising goals.
  • Working with the VP and other University Advancement colleagues, facilitates the development of an annual University Advancement workplan that includes strategies for all areas of the department.
  • Maintains a portfolio of prospects and secures leadership, major, and planned gifts.
  • Ensures successful implementation of a planned giving program through marketing and prospecting strategy, as well as assisting in the solicitation of planned gift prospects.
  • Sets direction and gives guidance to stewardship program to recognize donors in effective and meaningful ways, with the AVP assuming responsibility for high-end donor stewardship strategies for University’s top twenty-five donors provides leadership and directi6n for major gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, planned giving, stewardship, donor relations and prospect research. In addition, the AVP for Advancement strategizes with annual giving staff; is directly involved in the identification, cultivation., solicitation, and stewardship of gifts; effectively communicates the mission and values of the university; has a working knowledge of current best practices in all aspects of fundraising; and collaborates and partner with colleagues across campus.

  • Ensures successful implementation of a planned giving program through marketing and prospecting strategy, as well as assisting in the solicitation of planned gift prospects.
  • Sets direction and gives guidance to stewardship program to recognize donors in effective and meaningful ways, with the AVP assuming responsibility for high-end donor stewardship strategies for University’s top twenty-five donors.
  • Provides direction and leadership for research and prospect management staff to ensure fundraising staff members have a robust portfolio, along with pertinent information to effectively qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors, stewarding them through the “moves management” cycle.
  • Provides support in creating thoughtful individual donor strategies aligning philanthropic interests with Gannon University priorities, supported with proposal and gift agreement materials that inspire major gift commitments.
  • Develops strong, positive relationships with the Gannon community to establish University Advancement as the major resource and coordinator for all University fund raising.
  • Manages annual budgets and ensures that areas of responsibility are operating in a fiscally prudent and productive way.
  • Keeps well-informed of current best practices in the profession and evaluates new and emerging ideas for potential implementation at Gannon University. Maintains and updates the department’s policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Attends University events where appropriate, or in place of VP or University President when they are unable, especially when audience includes internal and external stakeholders, prospects, donors, Board of Trustees members, Alumni Board members, or other participants critical to the work of University Advancement.
  • Participates in community events with the intent of building and enhancing relationships to increase the visibility of Gannon University in the local market.

Required Qualifications

Masters Degree

  • Three to five years of dedicated fundraising experience, with demonstrated skills in securing major gifts for multiple organizational priorities.
  • Demonstrate experience in working with individual donors, corporations, and foundations.
  • Exhibit knowledge and experience securing and soliciting planned gifts.
  • Licenses and/or Certifications: Active fund raising organizational membership/s, CFRE preference; valid driver’s license
