The Assistant Treasurer is a dynamic role in the Finance department that pivots between the accomplishment of accounting tasks and departmental leadership. On the technical end of the spectrum, this role requires good issue-recognition and problem-solving skills to provide accurate monthly financial reporting to stakeholders. On the leadership end, the Assistant Treasurer is will invest in the development of assigned Finance personnel and delegate tasks that they have mastered. The qualified candidate must like boundaries in order to uphold the principles, practices, and procedures of accounting so that organizational resources are well-stewarded. Finally, the Assistant Treasurer will lend their experience and contribute their knowledge in a collaborative setting with other Finance leadership to help make decisions that affect the Finance department and organization at large.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage the monthly financial closing schedule including oversight and preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and review of draft financial statements
Participate in and co-lead annual audit preparation tasks
Monitor effectiveness of internal controls and provide recommendations for process improvement
Assist in budget preparations as needed
Complete special projects and studies including data and problem analysis
Draft policy, procedure, and process documents as assigned
Monitor financial calendar and schedule staff resources to meet deadlines
Supervise, train, and develop assigned Finance staff
Facilitate the financial orientation of new employees (and missionaries) concerning WorldVenture financial policies and procedures
Correspond with internal (staff and missionaries) and external (donors, vendors, and regulatory agencies) constituents on financial policies, procedures, and reporting
Learn the responsibilities of the Treasurer position and act as backup for Treasurer
Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in managing and developing staff
Skilled in GAAP financial accounting and reporting
Has a working knowledge of Federal and State tax law
Capable of organizing, prioritizing, and/or overseeing multiple projects and deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Capable of traveling internationally on a periodic basis
Skilled in use of computer, computer programs and office equipment
Detail oriented and organized
Personal initiative, creative and innovative thinker
Flexible and adaptable to change, unexpected demands and interruptions

Education and Formal Training:
Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting
Non-profit experience preferred
Licensed as a CPA preferred
