Job Description

The Assistant IT Director will oversee Technology Specialists within the IT department. This person will also provide student and staff support to resolve software and hardware problems encountered, maintain computer equipment and supplies, provide professional development to staff, and assist with administration and support of the District's technology applications, which may reside on multiple platforms.

The Assistant IT Director will report to the Assistant Superintendent/IT Director; however, they will need to work closely with the Business office and Human Resources, specifically in the areas of infrastructure, student information systems, other related software, and supervision of classified personnel. Collaboration between the Assistant IT Director and Building Level Administrators will be required to provide technology implementation and staff development at the building level.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Identify training needs and facilitate staff development programs that enhance the district’s ability to install, support, and maintain all forms of instructional and information management technology.
  • Participate in a variety of planning and development activities, including district-wide committees, for the purpose of creating long- and short-term plans
  • Assess and facilitate the delivery of staff development needs relating to technology use in classrooms and offices throughout the district.
  • Recommend technology policies, procedures, and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district’s goals and objectives.
  • Research trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases.
  • Assist in overseeing the district technology use policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of groups, including teachers, students, administrators, co-workers, vendors, consultants, community members, and others as required.
  • Demonstrate and model safe, prudent, and healthful work behaviors and practices; identify and work toward elimination of unsafe and unhealthful work area conditions.
  • Assists users with computer, computer/mobile devices, printer, electronic, and audiovisual malfunctions to provide immediate problem resolution or escalate for resolution.
  • Maintains District Directory (e.g. e-mail addresses, credentials, passwords, ID cards, etc.) and electronic employee portal for the purpose of recording information required for District operations.
  • Considers needs of students of all ages for the purpose of supplying age-appropriate devices and software to enhance learning in every grade - in collaboration with district personnel.
  • Installs and sets up computer hardware and software applications involved with 500 - 2,000 devices annually (e.g. new computers, mobile devices, peripheral cards, configuring operating systems, printers, etc.) for the purpose of providing upgrades and program expansion to maintain standards.
  • Instructs personnel for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing operating systems and application software.
  • Maintains inventory of District resources (e.g. phones, printers, computer/mobile devices, access points, scanners, hardware, software, etc.) for the purpose of keeping resources available for any immediate need.
  • Maintains a variety of files, databases and records (e.g. parts inventory, service records, etc.) for the purpose of providing audit trails, control mechanisms and documenting department activities.
  • Provides technical support to staff to ensure efficiency in the use of various software products.
  • Researches malfunctions by putting problems out to others to apply the proper solution in a timely manner.
  • Responds to a wide variety of requests, concern,s and complaints to resolve problems, providing information, and referring to appropriate personnel.
  • Supervises technology specialists and summer technology assistants to manage the workload efficiently.
  • Troubleshoots existing/new/proposed application software and hardware to identify and resolve issues, providing user training, or referring to other resources for resolution.
  • Works with vendors (e.g. outside repair sources, etc.) to repair/updating/replacing computer/mobile devices, and networks back in operation in a timely manner.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent may designate.
  • Assist with cyber security efforts within the district.

Physical Requirements

  • Light physical activity and lifting up to forty pounds
  • Work under pressure of deadlines and time constraints
  • May be required to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time
  • Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone
  • Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above essential responsibilities. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
  • Ability to bend, reach and walk
  • Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by others
  • Short term and long term memory ability is required in all tasks

Other Requirements

  • If required to operate a vehicle:
  • Valid Wyoming Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
  • Acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier

Terms Of Employment

Full-time, 260 day, salaried exempt position. Eligible for benefits per district policy and Administrative Regulations and Operational Procedures.

Evaluation

Job performance will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent/Technology Director.
