Job Summary:

This is a full time 12-month professional position reporting to the Director. This person is responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing all of the day-to-day operations of the auditorium. Responsibilities for McAlister Auditorium include patron services, technical services, and housekeeping services. This employee is responsible for organizing, and directing the installation, maintenance and oversight of operation of sound, stage lighting, and theatrical equipment in the facility. Work includes selection, assignment, and evaluation of personnel, ordering supplies, and controlling equipment and supplies inventories.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, train and oversee student and professional technical staff to meet facility safety standards, basic operations of theatrical equipment and event production requirements including all phases of production and maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, student, staff, artists, visiting production personnel and members of the general public and provide excellent customer service.
  • Consults with groups prior to arrival to ascertain specific technical needs and specifications. Must be comfortable with varied experience levels, from large national tours to local event organizers.
  • Enforces and has knowledge of relevant safety protocols for theatrical production, OSHA, ANSI standards and applicable Fire and Life Safety Codes. Responsible for inspections and record keeping.
  • Assist with payroll for both student and professional stagehands for events as needed. Maintain crew hours and training records.
  • Able to work in an organized manner and easily adjust to last minute changes in a fast paced, high stress environment.
  • Maintains, inspects, repairs and keeps records on theatrical equipment and systems and informs supervisor of issues discovered.
  • May be required to assist with basic sound, video or lighting design.

Reports To: Director

Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or commensurate experience in professional events required.
  • Experience in stage and theatrical work including rigging, sound, lighting, video, stage techniques and maintenance activities required. In depth audio experience preferred.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, E-mail and standard internet technology, drafting a plus.
  • Experience in a public assembly facility is desired.

Work requires:

  • Hands-on physical position, including lifting, carrying, pulling, etc.
  • Frequent exposure to working at great heights and high voltage.
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Significant evening and weekend work required.
  • Irregular work schedule.
