Workdays & Hours: *Monday - Friday/8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.*

Description Of Duties/Essential Functions

  • Assists in the coordination and oversight of work activities by construction and/or design personnel, technical professionals, consultants, and other outside agencies to provide support, resolve concerns and attain project completion.
  • Assists in developing contractual budgetary controls, managing schedules, establishing/executing the scope of work, mapping projects, and preparing design workbooks.
  • Conducts inspections to ensure adherence to design specifications and requirements.
  • Provides timely responses to submittals from construction and/or design personnel. Verifies and processes progress payments and negotiates cost of changes to contracts.
  • Monitors documentation and processing of information affecting required change orders.
  • Prepares and maintains various reports and records on project execution.
  • Prepares and evaluates processes and procedures to ensure project goals are achieved. Previous technical solutions to challenges encountered during construction and/ or design activities.
  • Attends various project meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III level.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Physical Sciences or a closely related field. Considerable knowledge of the construction industry is required.

Minimum Experience Requirements

Two years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geotechnical, environmental or in a closely related field are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum License Requirements

Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
