Job Summary
The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty of the College of Education (COE) with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the Dean, including serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University. The Associate Professor will act as an Early Childhood Education subject matter expert for the COE and the liaison to the William Clay Early Childhood Development/Parenting Education Center.
The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty who demonstrate achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Professor will be teaching undergraduate courses in a program with an interdisciplinary team of faculty. Courses may be taught seated or on-line, day or evening. Coursework may include various topics within the field of elementary education including the teaching of English language learners. The Assistant Professor is expected to develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with public school partners and provide clinical supervision for elementary practicum students, interns and student teachers. The Assistant Professor is expected to engage in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and will be expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research by having an active research agenda, publishing in peer reviewed national and international journals, and developing grant proposals. The Assistant Professor is expected to participate in COE strategic planning and program reviews. The Assistant Professor is expected to actively support the COE’s recruitment and retention goals and initiatives. In addition, the Assistant Professor will support the university’s Public Affairs Mission.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional Qualifications
The Assistant Professor must have a terminal degree in Early Childhood Education, or Education, Teaching and Learning, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or closely related field from an accredited university. Minimum of 18 graduate hours in Early Childhood Education or a subject area related to Early Childhood instruction. Minimum of three years of teaching in the United States in grades PK-3 is required. Employment will require a criminal background check at university expense.
