Position Summary
The Department of Theology & Religious Studies at Villanova University invites application for a tenure-track assistant professor in African and African Diasporic ( AAD ) Spiritualities, to begin August 2025. We welcome applications from scholars trained in Theology and/or Religious Studies who research any aspect of AAD spirituality, with preference for candidates who focus on one or more of the following: Black Christianities and Black Catholicism, African Christianities, Africana philosophy, indigenous African religions, African or African-American Islam, African diasporic religions. Interdisciplinary engagement in anthropology, history, political science, sociology, or other related disciplines is welcome. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential for teaching and mentoring excellence at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian order. The department seeks candidates whose research and/or teaching demonstrates present or potential engagement with Catholicism in its theological and religious traditions. Duties And Responsibilities
In addition to maintaining an active research agenda leading to publication, our new colleague will teach undergraduate/graduate courses in theology, spirituality, and their area of expertise, as well as other departmental courses, in a way that fosters connections across the discipline and the Villanova community.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD is required as well as outstanding research potential and excellence in teaching.
