Basic Functions: The Assistant Principal is directly responsible for reporting to the building principal for any and all aspects of administration, coordination, and instructional leadership which may be assigned to him by the building principal.
Qualifications
A Master's degree or higher with training in school administration and supervision
At least four years successful teaching experience at the appropriate level
Appropriate certification/license
Must be able to apply technology skills to daily work
Must have demonstrated expertise in the area of effective instructional practices
Demonstrates good organizational skills
Must have the ability to be self-directed
Demonstrates good decision making skills
Demonstrates good listening skills
Ability to develop positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal:
Works collaboratively with the building principal to fulfill obligations of their daily functions
Serves as building principal in the absence of the principal
Collaborates with the principal for all general school disciplinary matters.
Assists in master schedule development.
Collaborates with the principal to complete OTES evaluations.
Assists the staff with regard to the application of the IDEA regulations
Shares supervision of student activities and athletic contests with principal
Assists with curriculum development and program evaluation.
Works closely with office staff to solve student-related problems.
Provides for the security, safety, and well being of the students, staff, and facilities.
Works with principal and other administrators to plan for and approve expenditures.
Assists the principal in all planning for staffing projections.
Administers Chillicothe City Schools' policies and regulations as assisted by the Principal.
Works with staff to ensure student achievement and success.
Facilitates Special Education services as appropriate.
Assists Principal in overseeing operation of building.
Provides staff development opportunities.
Participates on Building Leadership Team, Student Services Management Team, and Attendance Team.
Strives to resolve conflicts with parents, students and staff.
Performs other job related duties as required/assigned by the principal.
Have knowledge of state, federal laws and board policies and applies appropriately.
Attends and participates in professional development opportunities knowledge and understanding of best practices, trends in education and legal updates.
Provides instructional support/leadership coaching to teachers in grades 3-6 that are on Improvement Plans, or ranked Developing and Skilled.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible citizens;
Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values;
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district; and
Conduct other related duties as assigned by the Principal or director.
Provide direct 1:1 instructional support to all teachers 3-6.
