Assistant Principal – Valdosta High School

Position Summary

The assistant principal’s primary job responsibility is the supervision, discipline, and monitoring of students. The assistant principal, under the direction of the building principal, implements and enforces school board policies, administrative rules, and regulations. In the absence of the building principal, the assistant principal shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the building principal. The assistant principal will work cooperatively with district administrators and administrative teams, and support district-wide goals and initiatives.

Certificate/License Requirements, Education, And Work Experience

Valid Georgia certification in Educational Leadership and a minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience. Background and experience in Student Discipline, Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS), and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities

Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school. Serves as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal. Assists in the scheduling of classes and extracurricular activities. Supervises the preparation of student schedules. Works with department heads, grade level teams, and the school improvements team in compiling the annual budget requests. Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment conducts inventories, maintains records, and checks on receipt of such material. Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities. Coordinates transportation, custodial, food service, and other support services. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions. Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance. Assists with staff evaluation. Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers. Assists in scheduling special events during the school day. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational practices and related activities and objectives. Provides general supervision to students. Supervises extracurricular activities. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary. Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct. Assists in the preparation of teacher and student handbooks and other school publications. Assists with MTSS process and 504s. Attends staff meetings, professional learning, and training sessions, and serves on staff committees as required. Abides by all Code of Ethics for Educators and Board policies. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance. Other duties may be assigned.

SALARY: TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Commensurate with education/experience. 10.5 Months
