SUMMARY: Assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership and to develop essential skills for the role of principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  • Assist the principal in the general administration of the school and supporting school culture through leadership.
  • Provide instructional guidance to teachers and staff to support teaching and learning.
  • Provide leadership for students and staff to enhance student engagement in curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide support and leadership when working with parents to benefit the overall progress of students and support the culture of the school.
  • Collaborate with fellow administrators on a regular basis to monitor and assess the effectiveness of site programs and address any issues that may limit the future success of students.
  • Collaborate with campus staff when constructing academic schedules/programs and plans for extracurricular activities.
  • Provide leadership for the safety of the school on a regular basis, which includes the safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Collaborate with all campus faculty to support student attendance and student engagement.
  • Assist in maintaining high standards of conduct for students, using discipline as a tool to support those high standards.
  • Serve with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Perform administrative tasks (record-keeping, facilities management, student handbook development, etc.) as directed by the principal.
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers and staff as assigned by the principal.
  • Provide supervision for extra-curricular activities outside of the regularly scheduled school day.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
  • Adhere to all federal and state laws and Board policies while serving as an administrator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises certified and non-certified personnel as assigned by the principal.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a directly related field
  • Valid Oklahoma Principal’s Certificate
  • Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
  • Experience as a classroom teacher, minimum of 5 years teaching preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of generally accepted principles of educational leadership, strategic planning, and instructional practices for students. Knowledge of procedures, techniques and strategies pertaining to the operation of a school. Ability to carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision. Ability to lead multiple priorities with frequent interruptions. Ability to effectively analyze problems, issues, and concerns for the purpose of formulating appropriate alternative solutions. Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members. Organizational, prioritization, communication and interpersonal skills are required to achieve the goals of this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language including common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, other district personnel, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to a variety of audiences in a variety of settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver’s license in good standing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods; travel to school sites; and using keyboarding skills, work on a computer for long periods.
