Assistant Principal

POSITION: Assistant Principal

REPORTS TO: Principal

FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

SALARY RANGE: Assistant Principal Scale ($62,400 – $90,000 BOE plus benefits)

Qualifications

  • Valid Colorado Administrator or Principal License.
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Secondary Education, Curriculum Instruction, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience at the secondary school level required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ leadership experience at the secondary school level preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of secondary curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance as well as good morale.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must exhibit a professional manner and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines quickly.
  • Must have successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
  • Bilingual Preferred

Job Goal

The K-12 Assistant Principal is primarily assigned to the middle school and is directly responsible to that building Principal; assists in the administration, supervision, and evaluation of the educational programs and supportive services for staff and students in the school. Functions include providing support as deemed necessary by the Executive Director to the other two academies, establishing a safe climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating programs, affecting change, and decision making.

RESPOSIBILITIES: Performs the following full range of duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Works with the Principal to analyze, share, and use school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan.
  • Works with Principal to implement systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness.
  • Increase parent and community involvement.
  • Develop and implement an effective master schedule that aligns all resources to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provide assistance to the building Principal to develop and implement a proactive and positive approach to behavior management with students.
  • Assists with ensuring the behavior matrix being used effectively and is an efficient strategy/tool for student retention.
  • Effectively implement academic content standards-based education for K-12 grades.
  • Provides a multi-tiered comprehensive student support system that encompasses academics and behavior that meets the needs of all students.
  • Shares responsibility for establishing and maintaining a welcoming environment that demonstrates respect for the staff, students and families served by the school.
  • Responds equitably to all school, parent, and community requests and works with staff and students to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Assumes responsibility for specific areas of administration as assigned by the Principal; uses administrative and management practices to promote the efficient and effective operation of the school.
  • Handles student behavior situations promptly, positively, and effectively; also assures due process for students as part of the disciplinary process.
  • Ensures a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies.
  • Assists the Principal in ensuring instructional guidelines are in place and the teachers are following CHPA expectations.
  • Develops, monitors, provides guidance and feedback for staff professional development, which meets the needs for continuous professional growth.
  • Assist the Principal in observing and evaluating staff members for the purpose of improving student growth, identify professional learning needs, promoting teacher leadership, and making decisions.
  • Assists the Principal with recruiting, interviewing, assigning, and evaluating school faculty and staff.
  • Follows established timelines and guidelines for all of the elements required by federal, state, and CHPA policies.
  • Assumes responsibility for operation of the school in the absence of the Principal.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
