Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction, to assist in the administration of a school facility; to plan, develop, organize, coordinate and supervise the student attendance, behavior management and extra-curricular activity programs; to assist in the planning, development and implementation of site, instructional and operational goals and objectives, and in the evaluation of the effectiveness of educational programs and personnel performance; and to do other related functions as directed.

Qualifications

  • Hold or be eligible for a Maryland educator certificate in the appropriate area with Administrator I endorsement.
  • A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience with experience in a supervisory/leadership role(s).
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional programs and effective teaching strategies.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skill
  • Eligibility for an Administrator II Certificate within in one(1) year of hire, preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and works with special cases as necessary.
  • Confer with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel and students on matters of discipline and welfare.
  • Participate with Principal in teacher observations, evaluations and pre/post-conference meetings.
  • Serves as Principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Assists in analyzing, sharing and using school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan.
  • Assists Principal with the scheduling of classes, IEP meetings, testing scheduled and any other extracurricular activities and other duties.
  • Supervises the preparation of student schedules.
  • Works with department heads and/or faculty in compiling the annual budget.
  • Requisitions supplies, textbooks and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records and checking on receipts for such material.
  • Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of students attendance and works with the appropriate personnel for investigative follow-up actions.
  • Performs such record-keeping functions , (such as 504 plans) as the Principal may direct.
  • Supervises teachers and/or departments as assigned by the Principal.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Assists the principal in implementing systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness.
  • Works with principal to establish and maintain relationships with community organizations.
  • Deals promptly and positively with behavior problems.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Maintains a professional deportment and appearance.
  • Emulates the highest professional ethics and practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

PAY & HOURS: This position is a 12 month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Administrators & Supervisors Salary Scale. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills and abilities related to this position.
