Job Responsibilities:

The Assistant Head of School-Upper Grades will serve as a leader for the school with significant responsibilities regarding school culture, operations, teaching and learning support, and innovation. Specifically, this position will:

  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of the school and help drive its continuous improvement as an organization
  • Serve as the functional leader of the Upper School (grades 10,11 and 12) and of the school as a whole when the Head of School designates or when necessary; Be a partner and advisor to the Assistant Head of School-Lower Grades and the Head of School and administrative team
  • Be responsible for the operational success of the Upper School, including coordination and/or supervision of student support services, student and staff policies and procedures, assessment (including MCAS, MAP and ACCESS testing), MTSS systems, support of discipline and school culture initiatives, and all systems of support in the Upper Grades.
  • Lead, supervise and support the Student Support Team in the Upper Grades to establish positive, trauma-sensitive and effective conditions for learning throughout the school and work with SST staff to provide data-driven supports and interventions to off-track and at-risk students
  • Coordinate and support programs with external partners to implement innovative programs
  • Partner with the Director of Teaching & Learning to support school-wide instructional improvement
  • Collaborate with the Director of Special Education and the ELL Facilitators to ensure effective and appropriate services for Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners
  • Support, supervise and evaluate teachers and staff as part of the Supervision & Evaluation Team. Also serve as a member of the school’s Administrative and Leadership Teams and attend their meetings
  • Provide professional development as needed for staff to support BGA’s mission, vision and goals, particularly around required training and operational needs
  • Engage and communicate with students and families regularly to meet their needs and provide supports
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
  • Return to work as part of the managerial team on August 5, 2024 and participate in our all-school summer professional development prior to the start of the school year.

Qualifications Required:

  • Strong commitment to Boston Green Academy’s mission, values, and educational model
  • Desire to be a part of strengthening an innovative school and to meet the challenges we face
  • At least five years prior teaching and/or administrative experience required
  • Masters degree required; in education or leadership preferred
  • Must hold a valid Administrative/Supervisor license from DESE (or be eligible for one)
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, take and provide constructive criticism, build consensus, make student-centered and outcome-oriented decisions, and maintain a sense of humor and optimism despite challenges
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another major language spoken in our community is preferred
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting such as the Boston Public Schools
  • Prior experience as a school administrator or in leadership capacities

Compensation:

  • All staff at BGA will receive excellent salaries and benefits as employees of the Boston Public Schools with stipends available for additional responsibilities
  • Terms: BASAS, Group 10B, 211 days (subject to BGA annual Acknowledgement of Working Conditions Agreement terms and conditions); reports to Head of School
