Psychiatric Times seeks a highly motivated assistant editor with top-notch writing and editing skills, capable of turning around professionally written articles that present evidence-based medical information and insights for an audience of psychiatric clinicians. An assistant editor should have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, ideally with interest in health care/medical research and some news writing experience.

Requirements

ABOUT THE POSITION  

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences communications, medical journalism, writing, or a related field
  • Ability to write both breaking news and longer feature stories
  • Willing to grow skillset in digital content creation and distribution channels, SEO, writing and editing highly scientific data-driven material
  • Strong interviewing, AMA editing, writing, communication, technical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently and meet strict deadlines to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Attention to detail, persistence, and focus
  • Able to use or quickly learn Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe InCopy, Content Management System, iMovie, Garage Band, and other databases and programs
  • Flexibility; can evolve in current role as needed and adapt to change
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and solve problems quickly, decisively, and independently
  • Willingness to travel to and file written and video reports from medical conferences

Responsibilities

  • Conduct clear oral and written communication with fellow associates and psychiatry's key opinion leaders (KOLs), including doctors, residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
  • Assist in managing engaging content for Psychiatric Times social media accounts (eg, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X)
  • Conduct interviews that result in articles, podcasts, and videos
  • Work with editorial team and clinicians to conceptualize, edit, and produce compelling digital and print media content
  • Professionalism and ethics in all interactions with internal and external customers
  • Share information and cooperate with team members
  • Some travel to attend medical conferences
