Basic Function

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission is a critical member of the Undergraduate Admission team that is dedicated to dedicated to the recruitment, admission, and matriculation of a talented and diverse undergraduate student body. The position requires travel, as well as evening and weekend responsibilities. Proficiency with Slate is preferred. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission this person will serve as a lead recruiter within the office.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Plan recruitment travel and represent the university at in-territory recruitment events
  • Review undergraduate applications and conduct presentations, interviews and information sessions as appropriate
  • Coordinate and mange communication with prospective students and their families form assigned territory through email, phone calls, face to face meetings etc.
  • Building relationships through extensive interaction with prospective students and their families from assigned territory through email, phone calls, face to face meetings etc.
  • Create and lead on-going high school counselor relationships
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, maintaining professional networks and participating in professional organizations

  • Manage an assigned geographic recruitment territory requiring 40% travel

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Experience within Higher Education
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies to support admission and student recruitment
  • Exceptional public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and able to build solid working relationships
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis

Work Environment

  • In person, not eligible for hybrid or remote status
  • On Howard University main campus
  • 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday, weekends, and evenings as necessary
  • 40% travel during September, October, March, April

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $48,182 - $53,000
