We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College’s staff as the new Assistant Director of Residential Involvement and Resident Director.

The incumbent for this position is a forward thinking, innovative Student Affairs professional, committed to making a difference in the lives of residential students. The Assistant Director of Residential Involvement leads recruiting, hiring, and training efforts for undergraduate Resident Assistants; coordinates social media and online efforts for Residence Life; and, supports assessment efforts to shape student success efforts. A portion of the Assistant Director position also serves as a Resident Director, supporting one to two residential buildings and the associated para-professional staff. This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.

Assistant Director of Residential Involvement: The Assistant Director leads recruiting, hiring, and training efforts for undergraduate Resident Assistants. This position is a key coordinator of providing experiential and educational engagement opportunities to students within the residence halls and assessing that engagement in a systematic way, consistent to the department of Residence Life and within the division of Student Affairs missions and goals.

Resident Director: The Resident Director manages up to two residence halls, housing approximately 220-275 students, during the fall and spring semesters. The incumbent is required to live on-campus for this position. Included within the compensation for this position is a semi-furnished, 12-month apartment, board plan usable within the Academic board calendar typically within August to early May, and a parking space.

Pets may be allowed with a signed pet agreement and deposit.

Your Primary Job Duties And Responsibilities Would Include

Assistant Director of Residential Involvement:

  • Coordinate recruiting efforts each semester.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new and returning Resident Assistants.
  • Assess the impact of recruiting, hiring, and training efforts.
  • Coordinate with Resident Directors about para-professional staff experiences and involvement.
  • Oversee the advising of the Residence Hall Association (RHA); monitor RHA, budget and expenditures.
  • Coordinate social media and online presence in collaboration with the Associate Dean/Director of Residence Life.
  • Participate in all Residence Life programs, orientation programs and campus specialty weekends.
  • Serve as a member of the MC Cares Team.
  • Collaborate with summer conferences to train student camps and conference assistants, supporting guests and other stake holders.
  • Collaborate with Director Res Life on departmental effectiveness, annual reports, and residential curriculum
  • Support training for Resident Assistants, Resident Directors, on current Residence policies and procedures
  • Coordinate hiring and associated student employment documentation
  • Serve as the liaison between the Resident Assistant Advocacy Committee and Residence Life professional staff

Resident Director

  • Supervise 6-12 Resident Assistants, typically up to 6 per building.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor concerning day-to-day functions of building.
  • Attend staff meetings within department, with Associate Dean/Director of Residence Life, and others as assigned.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings with Resident Assistants.
  • Coordinate all programming efforts in the residence halls.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation as the primary emergency contact for the campus.
  • Assist with room assignments processes
  • Support review and updates of departmental policies and standard operation procedures
  • Support departmental strategic planning and assessment
  • Oversee efforts to keep the building’s maintenance current and in good working order
  • Serve as a conduct Hearing Officer in consultation with the designated Senior Student Conduct Officer and/or their designee
  • Assess residential curriculum programming as it pertains to the mission/goals in the residence halls.

Minimum Qualifications For This Job Required Are

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, required;
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Counseling, preferred.

Experience Required To Ensure Success In This Position

  • Experience with residence life/housing in higher education, and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: student conduct, assessment, supervision, use of Adirondack, and training/development efforts.
