The Assistant Director of Fitness (Group Fitness) serves as a valued member of the Recreational Services team working primarily to advance fitness opportunities for the University of Iowa campus. The group fitness program offers an average of 100 group classes per week of multiple formats serving over 50,000 participants each year. This position will have the responsibility of providing leadership to the Group Fitness instructor team, including overseeing all fitness programming efforts for group fitness, both on and off site, as well as, assisting with personal training programming efforts.
Responsibilities will include program development and implementation, training and development of the instructor team, special event programming, calendar development and scheduling, oversight of revenue generation programs and communicating with our members and participants. The Assistant Director is responsible for daily administration, supervision, evaluation, and management of the Fitness Program, including, but not limited to, budget development and management, assessment, policy creation and enforcement, onboarding procedures, participant and instructor conduct oversight, and the development and delivery of educational trainings. As a member of the Recreational Services team, this position will also be expected to instruct classes and coach personal training clients, assist with department initiatives, campus collaboration opportunities, student development, and late-night programming. The fitness professional staff also play an integral part in the layout design of the fitness floors, activity rooms and the selection of fitness equipment provided in our facilities.

Education
A master's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Related Experience (typically a minimum of 3 years).
One or more national certification(s): (American Council on Exercise (ACE), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or equivalent.
Outstanding oral and written communications, as well as attention to detail. Should be adept and relate well to a variety of individuals from all backgrounds while demonstrating the skills to manage a large staff.
Proficiency in utilizing standard office computer software applications. Familiarity with Fusion a plus, but not required.
Current American Red Cross CPR, AED and First-Aid Instructor Certification (or be able obtain within six months of hire).
Desirable Qualifications
Experience overseeing and leading a team.
Experience with technical and instructional competence in several areas of fitness including but not limited to: teaching a wide variety of group exercise classes, personal and small group training.
Experience developing and delivering presentations to groups.
American Red Cross AED, CPR and First Aid instructor certification.
