Assistant Director of Data Analysis

General Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of professional and administrative tasks in directing the administration of State and local assessments for the district. The position involves providing departmental leadership, working closely with Central Office Administration, principals, and school testing coordinators to effectively plan and implement the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Standards of Learning (SOL) testing program.

Essential Tasks

The following duties are normal for this position.   • Based on Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) testing schedule and local assessment needs, creates annual testing schedule, and communicates to district administration
  • Development of test security training materials and conducts a train-the-trainer model for school level, state testing coordinators
  • Evaluates the District testing program to identifying possible risk
  • Serve as primary contact for communication of testing irregularities
  • Conducts statistical analyses of test results and provides school level “data talks”
  • Collaborate with administrative and instructional staff to access operation and program needs
  • Participates in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the findings, and provides conclusions and recommendations
  • Development of District data visualizations for School Board presentations; including scorecards and accreditation data books
  • Review and coordinate research requests from outside organization or Roanoke City Public Schools employee
  • Assist the Director of Data and Analysis with various tasks
  • Assists with the supervision of the Testing and Data Specialist, Data Assistant, Data Analyst, and Coordinator of Division Testing
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Thorough knowledge of educational administration or testing and evaluation in general.

Specific knowledge of Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Standards of Learning (SOL) testing requirements is a must.

Ability to develop and implement short-and long-term goals that would move the testing and accountability program in the district forward.

Ability to develop and present training.

General knowledge of database, statistics, and graphical software available.

Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports, charts and graphs from them.

Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Education And Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or certification in computer science, mathematics, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Physical Requirements

High amount of sitting and working at a computer. Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift boxes of testing materials weighing 20 to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed in an office setting with extended periods of time at computer terminals. Primarily temperature-controlled and clean environment.
