This position reports to the Law School's Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Dean of Students for Upper Division and is responsible for a wide range of activities to help plan and support Law School events and conferences. Collaborating with and delegating to the Events Coordinator, the Assistant Director will work with stakeholders throughout the Law School and with external partners to plan programs and events from conception through the execution and debriefing stages. Creativity, knowledge of event planning protocols and technology, professionalism, and attention to detail are a must for this public-facing position that regularly interacts with event guests and members of the Law School community. While most Law School events take place during regular business hours, some evening and weekend work will be required.

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is up to $70,000.

  • Direct the logistics for all law school events, including orientation, commencement, student organization & co-curricular events, and law school conferences, which are primarily identified and led by the Dean, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Students, the faculty, and the Law School’s institutes and staff departments.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to determine event goals and requirements; evaluate requests, recommend plans for implementation, and oversee all logistics in coordination with stakeholders. Ensure conferences and events are conducted professionally and efficiently.
  • Develop and manage event budgets, including operating budgets, special accounts, travel, and procurement of goods, services, and equipment.
  • Develop, write, and edit online communications, webpages, and emails.
  • Oversee registration management and room selection; conduct cost comparisons and vendor negotiations; organize materials, update marketing materials with event information and other duties associated with events.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, coordinate with other Law School departments to minimize scheduling conflicts and advise on event management issues such as catering, speaker viability, venue, size, setup, invitee lists, etc.
  • Supervise and train student workers.
  • Coordinate and advise on the direction and annual plan of the unit, including resource allocation and management projects.
  • Manage operating funds associated with conferences and events.
  • Serve as liaison to University event coordinators/schedulers.
  • Assist Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Dean of Students for Upper Division with general office duties, as required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Office experience required.
  • Must have demonstrated multi-tasking skills, able to maintain expert knowledge of the law school, university, campus facilities, and policies and procedures
  • Must be flexible and able to provide/suggest alternate solutions when appropriate
  • Experience in scheduling events and budget management preferred
  • Experience/aptitude with PeopleSoft Financials and Cardinal Station preferred
  • One (1) to three (3) years experience in the same or similar field (student life, special events).
  • Prior experience as college work-study/student staff may be considered.
  • Experience in managing and working with work-study and/or student staff preferred.
