UChicago Medicine is seeking a seasoned and collaborative Assistant Director, Orthopaedics Services to join us at our medical campus in Hyde Park.

Job Summary

Under the direction and in conjunction with the UCMC Executive Director of the Musculoskeletal Service Line, the Assistant Director will assist in the development of and execution of the strategy of the service line. In addition, he/she will support ambulatory operations, financial outcomes, revenue cycle processes, regulatory processes and quality outcomes. Work with Management team to enhance/refine workflows according to LEAN process improvement, controls expenses, manages operational budget as well as manages human resource functions for direct reports. The Assistant Director will work with leaders across the organization to support all MSK ambulatory locations, including the Duchossois Center for Advanced Care (DCAM), the Comer Children’s Hospital, Tinley Park, Crown Point, Orland Park, South Loop, and all other current and future locations where outpatients receive care under the UCM Orthopaedic Surgery brand. The Director is responsible for ensuring there is a consistent approach to access Orthopaedic services and consistent standards for quality, efficiency and effectiveness across all clinical locations. The Director also ensures that appropriate processes are implemented to support the providers and staff in delivering safe, effective patient care within a professionally rewarding practice environment. The Assistant Director will also participate in and support new program planning and support implementation of the strategic plan annually. The Director works to communicate effectively and collaborate with all leaders, physicians and staff to promote a positive culture, promote provider and employee engagement, and overall enhance the patient experience. The Director partners with key leaders across the entire UCM Healthcare System in decision making and ensures a bidirectional flow of information.

Esstential Job Functions

  • Responsible for day to day practice operations with daily oversight for all operational effectiveness throughout the Orthopaedic service line. In conjunction with executive administrator, nursing supervisor, practice coordinator & regional coordinators; assesses plans, develops and implements business/operational strategy to meet the service line goals. Coordinates the implementation of standard work and management systems across clinic locations. Oversight of practice specific issues with IS, facilities, EVS, supplies, etc. Utilizes appropriate internal expert resources to ensure practice compliance with internal and external policies and regulatory groups (e.g. infection control, billing, Office of Compliance, Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). Collaborates with providers and staff to ensure efficient patient throughput. Ensures patients and family’s needs are met. Implements and participates in service recovery efforts. Seeks to engage in problem solving and collaboration.
  • Supervision & oversight of practice manager, regional coordinators & nurse manager. Responsible for performance management and evaluation of direct reports; as well as mentoring and development of staff to support the mission of UCM and the MSK Service line.
  • Actively monitors performance metrics and other relevant reports to make real-time, appropriate operational adjustments to ensure all key objectives are met. Engages with physicians, staff, and leaders as needed to achieve results. Monitors the operating budget for labor and non-labor expenses.
  • Serves as a key liaison across all clinic locations ensure mission, vision, and values are consistent. Collaboration with site managers at UCM offsite clinic locations & scheduling groups (i.e., Burr Ridge). Promotes partnership across BSD & UCM. Coordinates resources to meet goals for service line & AOP.
  • Involved in strategic & project planning with the executive team. Offers ambulatory perspective in service line growth strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred in healthcare related field
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare and customer service, ideally overseeing ambulatory practice framework
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to manage large and complex organizational units with varying needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders, preferably in an academic medical center environment
  • Exceptional talent in the selection and mentoring of a high-quality team.
  • Proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using LEAN for performance Improvement is desirable
