Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education (ADIPE) is responsible for the development, implementation, integration, and evaluation of interprofessional health education programming with the goal of translating the outcomes of interprofessional health education into collaborative best practice models. The IPE office (CUIPE) identifies and enlists collaboration from a broad spectrum of academic and community partners in addition to the initial stakeholders who currently participate in IPE at Campbell: Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing and Medicine. CUIPE is responsible for creating opportunities and implementing programs to support improved patient and community health and clinical outcomes, reduced excess healthcare costs, enriched educational experiences, and enhanced research collaboration through the implementation of interprofessional, team-based, educational, clinical, and research initiatives at Campbell University.

The ADIPE reports to the dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and is supported by a Coordinator of IPE to oversee the development and implementation of IPE programming throughout the CPHS. The ADIPE informs and collaborates with the IPE Hubs to develop a sound working relationship with all members of the IPE initiative at Campbell University and its community partners. As an institutional leader, the Assistant Dean must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the University’s mission, vision, goals, and strategic plan. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing these goals through effectively articulating these concepts, championing the cause of IPE, rewarding individual/departmental achievement, and addressing underperformance.

Essential Specific Duties And Responsibilities

  • Preparing faculty development programming to facilitate IPE activities
  • Enhancing the understanding of respect for the roles each discipline fulfills in patient care for health science students.
  • Enhancing the understanding and skills of health science students in each of the four main competency domains of IPE: teams and teamwork, values and ethics, communication, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Maximizing the use of instructional opportunities in IPE to provide and administer multiple health sciences degrees and professional programs efficiently
  • Expanding opportunities for collaborative research
  • Enhancing the understanding of the roles each discipline fulfills in patient care for health science and scholarship, including the facilitation of grant opportunities.
  • Improving communication among the health programs and other programs at Campbell University

These essential functions may be accomplished through, but not limited to, the following strategies:

  • Convene, organize, assess and staff Hub committees, advisory committees, and all sub-committees required to fulfill the goals of CUIPE.
  • Examine and remain current regarding IPE activities nationwide. This should include location and distribution of appropriate resources to encourage faculty and staff to remain engaged -- locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Review all member program accreditation requirements for IPE and track conformity alignment with IPE activities. Facilitate individual programs planning to meet IPE accreditation requirements.
  • Develop and implement innovative curricular IPE to support a program or department’s IPE needs.
  • Plan, supervise, and execute CUIPE events including coordination of logistics (communication, space acquisition, IT support, supplies, food, and paperwork).
  • Foster and maintain personal contact with each participating clinical entity/community partner.
  • Foster and maintain personal contact with Campbell University leadership and program deans and/or chairs.
  • Meet with health science programs to identify IPE programmatic accreditation needs and to inform programs of IPE opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Coordinate and communicate the strategic planning activities of the department.
  • Direct and supervise the Coordinator of IPE and other personnel as added to the department.
  • As opportunity permits, prepare and deliver formal presentations both on and off campus.
  • Ensure members of the IPE Hubs are locally, regionally, and nationally engaged.
  • Develop annual and other periodic reports for the CUIPE Office.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage an annual budget.
  • Maintain knowledge of the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures, which will include some familiarity of each participating college/department within the university. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of personnel and functions within the university.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working as part of a team as well as independently to meet goals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Exercises sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information. Conducts oneself in a highly professional manner. Exhibits professional comportment, including a commitment to providing high-quality service.

Education/Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required in clinical healthcare in a field currently offered by Campbell University.
  • Recommended experience in academics as faculty/administration and documented active IPE involvement, training, and/or professional development.
  • Eligibility for faculty rank at Assistant/ Associate/ or Full Professor depending upon previous academic experience
  • Additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
  • Preferred understanding of the following:
    • Systems thinking and planning
    • Health improvement collaborative activities at the local, county, state, and/or national level
    • Education and event planning
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
  • Knowledgeable regarding Qualtrics, Blackboard, Canva, Zoom, and Egnyte
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms
  • Proficiency in utilizing/administering social media platforms
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials, and the public, in addition to alumni, the IPE community at large, programs as individual entities, and the greater University and surrounding community.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent and professional judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours and/or occasional travel; including overnight stays
