We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant public company industry or audit experience. Requires proven expertise in biotech/pharma revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting, and inventory management. The role requires a “can do” attitude and be readily willing to roll up their sleeves while working in a fast-paced and evolving environment. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing the company's financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making processes.
Position Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations
Revenue Recognition: Manage and ensure accurate revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, including gross-to-net accounting, encompassing chargebacks, rebates, and other sales deductions common in the biotech/pharma industry
Inventory Management: Oversee inventory accounting and ensure accurate reporting and valuation of inventory
ERP Experience: Demonstrated experience in ERP system implementation and maintenance, ensuring financial processes are accurately integrated
Internal Controls: Maintain effective internal control procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data
Audit Coordination: Assist in managing the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of audits
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements, including SOX compliance
Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth
Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support business decisions, strategic planning, and operational efficiency
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function
Special Projects: Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives as needed, including system implementations and process redesigns
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required
Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in audit (with a focus on life sciences) and in a similar industry roles, with specific experience in public companies, revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting, and inventory management
Technical Skills: Expert in Microsoft Excel and Office, financial management software. Experience with system implementations, Concur and Coupa is a plus
Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance
ERP Experience: Demonstrated experience in ERP system implementation and maintenance, ensuring financial processes are accurately integrated
Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to be productively assertive and able to lead without direct authority to problem-solve collaboration and program issues with cross-functional teams
Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
Diligence: Detailed and Demonstrated ability to combine attention to detail with big picture perspective, operationalizing via excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
Integrity: High ethical standard
Compensation:
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
