Job Description

Position: Assistant Athletic Director

Contract Period: 240 days

Reports To: Athletic Director

Supervises: Coaches

Position Goal: The Assistant Athletic Director supports the Athletic Director in the management and administration of the athletic programs at Souhegan High School and Amherst Middle School. This role involves assisting with various aspects of program coordination, including scheduling, budgeting, compliance, and student-athlete support. The Assistant Athletic Director plays a vital role in promoting a positive and enriching athletic experience for students while upholding the values of sportsmanship and integrity.

Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of NHIAA & Tri-County League athletic rules, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to promoting the well-being and development of student-athletes.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the athletic schedule.

Other Preferred Skills And Considerations

  • Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related field
  • Valid NH teacher certification

Evaluation

  • Performance of position responsibilities will be evaluated annually in accordance with the approved administrative procedure for staff evaluation

General Duties

  • Supervision and Development of Staff:
    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance coaching effectiveness and student-athlete experiences.
  • Program Coordination:
    • Help ensure compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and standards set forth by governing bodies.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to eligibility, health and safety protocols, and participation requirements.
  • Management of Games and Facilities:
    • Assume responsibility for game management at home interscholastic contests
    • Help manage athletic facilities and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and meet safety standards.
  • Scheduling:
    • Assist the Athletic Director in planning and scheduling athletic events, practices, and competitions.
    • Coordinate with coaches, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of athletic programs.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management:
    • Assist in the management of the athletic department budget, including fundraising activities, revenue generation, and expenditure tracking.
    • Order equipment, supplies, uniforms, etc., in accordance with school budgetary and purchasing policies
    • Oversee maintenance, inventory management, reconditioning, and cleaning of all uniforms and equipment
    • Ensure responsible and transparent financial practices in accordance with school and district policies.
  • Student Support and Development
    • Provide for athletes’ health/safety with trainer and coaches.
    • Provide guidance and support to student-athletes in coordination with the Athletic Director and coaching staff.
    • Assist in promoting academic achievement and personal development among student-athletes.
    • Manage and run strength and conditioning programs with teams and individual athletes during the school year and through the summer as needed.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to engage with parents, alumni, and community partners in support of athletic programs.
    • Assist in promoting school spirit and involvement in athletic events through various outreach efforts.
      • Maintain and update the school calendar with athletic events.
      • Communicate with media outlets for important events
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal
  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism;
    • Demonstrate positive work habits by showing initiative, cooperation, dependability, efficiency, and productivity
    • Follow the guidelines of confidentiality as established by the school district
    • Attend and participate in relevant training sessions, meetings, and professional growth activities as requested/required
