Durham Academy, a PK-12 independent day school in Durham, NC, is seeking a passionate, hard working and eager individual to join the athletics department as an assistant AD for operations and administration. This is a full-time 12-month position with benefits with a start date of August 12, 2024. Typical hours will be Monday - Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with coverage of evening events expected three nights per week. There will also be occasional weekend event coverage.
In keeping with the mission of the school — to prepare each student to live a moral, happy and productive life - this position will support the experience and development of student-athletes. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and will work closely with two other assistant athletic directors, two athletics interns, coaches and student-athletes.
Job Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the Director of Athletics and coaching staff
Serve as the first point of contact from the athletic department for coaches, parents and peer schools
Schedule and coordinate team transportation
Work with coaches to inventory, distribute and collect uniforms and gear
Confirm games and contests with opposing schools and officials
Assist the Sports Information Director with website updates, photo management and livestream production
Coordinate sport sign-ups, roster management and handle all student-athlete paperwork
Work with the Parents Athletics Committee as the liaison between the athletics department and parent volunteers
Act as the liaison between the athletics department and the business office; work with the AD on budgeting and paying invoices
Build and maintain a database of historical rosters, records and awards
Coordinate the mentorship program for new coaches
Manage outside athletics facility rentals
Act as the operations coordinator for Upper School athletics
Create and implement game operations schedules by overseeing our interns and volunteers
Coordinate all maintenance, field and supply requests
Prepare and publish practice and rain schedules
Share on-site administrator responsibilities for home contests with Director of Athletics
Act as the liaison between the athletics staff and maintenance/grounds crew
Have on-site office hours during afternoon practice times to help support our coaches and student-athletes
Experience And Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in an administrative support position. An athletics background is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Office and Google Drive
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
An eagerness to dive into all facets of our independent school athletics program
An ability to maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with all members of the athletics program (student-athletes, families, alumni, teachers, staff, administrators, coaches and spectators)
