The Department of Psychiatry seeks qualified applicants for a full-time faculty position. The successful applicant will be prepared to launch and maintain a successful extramurally funded career in behavioral health research. The incumbent will be appointed at a rank commensurate with their research experience.

The Department of Psychiatry supports clinical, research, and education activities to comprehensively prevent and treat psychiatric disorders, conduct cutting-edge research, and prepare future clinicians through rigorous, experiential education. Our growing research programs in Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences seek to expand investigation in the study of sleep health, insomnia, and related conditions. In addition to sleep health, the seven research priorities for the department of psychiatry include: 1) Mood and anxiety disorders; 2) Community mental health and prevention 3) Psychotic-spectrum disorders (in particular, First Episode Psychosis); 4) Late-life mental health; 5) Child and adolescent mental health; 6) Suicide prevention; and 7) Addiction. It is strongly preferred that this position will have a focus on sleep health that intersects with at least one of these other seven focus areas. This multidisciplinary approach is aligned with the Department and the College of Medicine’s strong interest in facilitating team science and promoting novel scientific approaches to complex behavioral health problems.

The Department of Psychiatry has an international reputation as a leader in the clinical and translational study of sleep and associated conditions. In addition to experts in the Department of Psychiatry, there is shared interest and expertise in the study of sleep health in the Department of Medicine, College of Nursing, and the Department of Psychology in the College of Science. This position will be expected to work across colleges and departments. The University of Arizona Health Sciences is nearing completion of a federally funded Sleep and Translational Neuroscience Research Center that will be available for use by this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a focused, extramurally funded program of research and cultivate an international reputation in their area of research.
  • Effectively communicate and disseminate scholarly activity.
  • Serve as a research mentor to students and trainees within the department and across the medical center.
  • Participate in department and university committees as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Evidence of funded research and/or research training and publications.
  • MD, DO, or PhD with research emphasis in sleep health/insomnia.
