The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences is an independent research institute within OHSU that is dedicated to health and safety in the workplace. The Institute receives its base funding from the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Fund and leverages this base funding to secure federal government grants in basic, clinical, and applied research. We perform biomedical/occupational research and innovation for a healthy workforce, aimed at promoting health and reducing disease and disability among workers across the nation, particularly in Oregon.
The successful candidate will be joining our Total Worker Health® Center of Excellence, the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Successful candidates will be expected to develop and lead an applied-research program that is focused on the role of workplace conditions and exposures in worker safety, health, and well-being. Therefore, experience with occupational and workplace issues is required. We are particularly interested in scientists with training in public health, occupational-health psychology, occupational and environmental health, and epidemiology; however, we are open to various disciplines grounded in occupational health. We especially welcome applicants with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
Function/Duties of Position
- The successful applicant is expected to establish a collaborative, externally funded, and nationally recognized research program. This research will complement our ongoing basic, clinical, and applied research programs.
- Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Interventions to reduce psychosocial and environmental workplace exposures
- Workplace-related program and policy evaluation
- Workers’ compensation, disability management and health-services research
- Research in healthcare and other high-risk industries (e.g., construction, transportation, agriculture)
- Occupational epidemiology
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and demonstrate excellence in research with an existing funded research program or a demonstrated promise for such funding. Preference will be given to candidates with actively funded research programs or promise for such programs.
