The Zapara School of Business seeks a faculty member who can serve as an effective participant in a team moving the School forward toward AACSB accreditation.
The ideal applicant will hold advanced degrees in law and business, will have experience as a manager and entrepreneur, and will be able to teach in such areas as business law, entrepreneurship, social impact business, global poverty, international business, business communication, and business ethics.
While the School expects any applicant to meet the ordinary requirements for a business school faculty member, it also has specific additional goals for the person it will appoint to this position.
The Zapara School’s crucial need is for a faculty member who qualifies as what AACSB labels a “scholarly academic.” Crucial to qualifying for scholarly academic status is the completion of articles in peer-reviewed journals. To provide the School with the support it needs, the ideal candidate should be at work on a program likely to lead to publications and to ongoing scholarly productivity.
While the Zapara School is in search of scholarly academics who care about ongoing intellectual inquiry, it seeks to maintain a thriving community to which responsive communication, friendliness, and flexible service to students is central. The ideal applicant will be prepared to participate in and nourish such a community. In addition to mentoring students, the ideal applicant will also contribute to informed and creative reflection regarding the development and enhancement of curricula and academic programs.
The appointee’s workload will incorporate an appropriate mix of teaching, scholarship, and service activities, as determined by the ZSB dean and the chair of the Department of Management and Marketing in consultation with the appointee. Teaching will ordinarily include a mix of coursework at the introductory and advanced undergraduate levels and at the introductory and advanced graduate levels. The appointee’s compensation and rank will be set in light of demonstrated academic and professional strengths.
Gary Chartier (gchartie@lasierra.edu), associate dean and acting chair of the Department of Management and Marketing, can answer questions regarding the position, the School, and La Sierra University.
