Assessment Technician I (Closes August 2, 2024)

Summary

Under general supervision of the Chief Deputy Assessor this positions primary responsibility is customer service. This position receives increased supervision and will be assigned a multitude of receptionist type duties.

  • Must have ability to form and build good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, and the general public.
  • First in line to answer phones and assist customers at the counter.
  • Receives time sensitive material at the counter or in the mail, must date stamp and deliver to appropriate individual in the office.
  • Consults with property owners, realtors, etc. in matters of ownership or other general, non-complex assessment related issue.
  • Enters building permit information and “flags” accounts for appraiser inspection.
  • Orders office supplies and tracks inventory.
  • Scans appraisals, personal property returns, letters, vouchers and any other pertinent documents.
  • Process letters for mailing including stuffing envelopes, running through the postage machine and delivering mail to post office.
  • Receives and processes all incoming mail.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. On occasion, may have interaction with upset or hostile taxpayers during phone calls, field inspections, or at the customer service counter.

Physical Demands This is largely a sedentary role while in the office; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel

Some travel may be expected for this position for training.

Required Education And Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an assessor’s office or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be acceptable, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be acceptable

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Able to complete a thorough employment and/or criminal history check.
  • Final candidates will be required to provide official proof of college degree and certified transcripts (not required for all positions).
