ARTISTIC LINE PRODUCER-SIGNATURE THEATRE

Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an ARTISTIC LINE PRODUCER.

About Signature

Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005, Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the associate artistic director, the artistic line producer works in collaboration with Signature’s production and general management departments and plays a key role in the day-to-day planning and management of Signature’s productions. The artistic line producer also supports supplemental programming, developmental readings, and other events at Signature as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating and collaborating with Signature’s resident playwrights throughout each production process
  • Working with each production’s director, playwright, and Signature staff to assemble design and production teams
  • Liaising with Signature’s casting director in the scheduling and execution of auditions and callbacks, and when necessary, casting and integration of replacement actors and understudies
  • Attending casting sessions and acting as a resource for the director and playwright
  • Producing developmental readings with similar responsibilities as above
  • Organizing design meetings at Signature that begin each production’s design process
  • Liaising with Signature’s production manager throughout the design and bid processes with an eye towards budget and realization of the artistic vision of director and playwright
  • Attending production meetings, some rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and preview performances to support the production’s progress
  • Actively communicating with all Signature departments as necessary about developments in the production
  • Communicating with artists about participation in Marketing and Development events
  • Producing, moderating, and assisting in curation of supplemental programming events
  • Supporting the planning and production of Signature’s annual gala
  • Attending theatre productions outside of Signature to gain familiarity with artists’ work

Desired Skills And Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience producing theatre in a professional setting, has strong communication skills, is organized and detail-oriented (including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously), and is comfortable collaborating with artists at different career levels. Experience working directly with playwrights on new plays is also an asset.

This position requires both regular (onsite) weekday office hours and some (onsite) work on nights and weekends during the tech and preview process, occasionally for developmental work or special events, and to attend theatre outside of Signature.

Compensation

This is a full-time salaried exempt position with an annual salary of $60,000.
