This position is to teach one Art 1 section per semester.
Primary Function
Under the supervision of the Building Principal is responsible for teaching visual art education to pupils in grades 6-12 as assigned, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of visual art instruction. Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and presentation of art through a variety of planned experiences which can include drawing, painting, sculpture, and other areas of visual creativity through the use of diverse media.
Qualifications
Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.

Qualifications
- Possesses or qualify for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.
- Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.
- Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation.
- Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, HRIS, email, and information system applications.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
- Teaches skills in visual art understanding/appreciation, fundamentals, and creative process for all enrolled secondary students.
- Plans/executes a balanced visual art program and organizes class time so that preparation and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the visual art curriculum to the needs of
- Each pupil. Encourages students to develop individual artistic skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school owned materials and supplies to prevent loss, abuse, or injury..
- Evaluates and assesses each pupil’s artistic and creative growth and artistic understanding. Selects appropriate materials and instructional aids to enhance learning.
- Cooperation with Building Principal and staff in providing visual art shows and shares at open
- house, parent meetings, division programs and other exhibitions.
- Communicates with parents and school staff on individual student’s progress.
