The Art Director is responsible for art directing and managing team’s workflow, as well as creating graphic designs briefs and designs that are on trend, brand right, and meet business/seasonal objectives for the various mid-tier and opening price active wear brands in our portfolio! This role will involve developing, creating, and managing artwork to include apparel spot graphics, graphic tees, and all over prints from concept to production.
Responsibilities:
Lead trend research for active print repeats and graphics.
Work with textile Designers to oversee and art direct print repeat assortment as requested by apparel Design teams
Develop artwork or briefs and give direction for the creation of brand right, trend right graphics or briefs by team, that work either as stand alone or collection/capsules, in partnership with apparel Designers and cross-functional partners; this may include, but not limited to, apparel graphics, labeling, embroideries, fabric patterns, trims, marketing, etc.
Lead all new initiatives projects and presentation assets
Categorize, organize, and stay abreast of new techniques and resources while understanding technique application and their limitations
Serve as a leader and mentor to more junior members of the Graphics team
Manage workflow, assign projects to Graphic Designers on the team, as well as lead for projects by brand or season
Work with proprietary PLM system
Review strike-offs and work closely with cross-functional teams regarding pre and post production issues; Set standards and protocols for organizing graphic s/o.
Coordinate that all graphic resources, libraries, and team assets are replenished
Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams such as Merchandising, Graphics, Buying, Technical Design, Product Development, and Production
Qualifications:
Minimum of 15 years in the apparel industry
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Art, or related discipline preferred
Strong creative eye with proven creative and leadership abilities
Excellent computer skills including Photoshop and Illustrator
Ability to delegate, manage and art direct multiple projects and shift priorities accordingly
Strong management skills and attention to detail
Thorough knowledge of print repeats, graphic, trim and marketing production (e.g. screen printing, roller print, heat transfer, sublimation, embossing, embroideries, etc.)
Excellent understanding of typography, layout composition, color and trends
Annual salary starting at $150,000.
